Mystery Black Suitcase Under Bridge Turns Out Empty
A suspicious black suitcase discovered beneath a bridge in Ayutthaya turned out to be completely empty after police inspection on September 17, allaying public fears of drugs or foul play.
At 06:10 on September 17, Ayutthaya Provincial Police Radio Centre 191 received a report of a large suspicious black suitcase abandoned beneath the Khlong Hok bridge on Rojana Road, in the inbound lane to Ayutthaya city. Ayutthaya Police Station officers and staff from the Phuthaithaisawan Foundation investigated.
Security guards discovered a large black suitcase in excellent condition, wrapped in plastic, and abandoned under the bridge. Police photographed it and conducted a preliminary risk assessment before putting on gloves and opening it. The bag appeared light and showed no unusual features.
Officers then opened the suitcase for inspection amid public concern that it might contain drugs, evidence of foul play, or human remains. However, the inspection revealed nothing of concern—the suitcase was completely empty, containing no drugs, hazardous materials, or suspicious items of any kind.
Surashakdi, 33, the security guard who reported the incident, explained that he had spotted the suitcase the previous morning while passing the bridge and became suspicious. When he passed the same spot the next morning and found it still there unmoved, he grew worried it might contain something illegal or be connected to a crime, prompting him to call police. Relief came when officers confirmed the suitcase was empty.
Ayutthaya Police photographed the scene for evidence before handing the suitcase back to the security guard for disposal.
