Nuch Vilawan Releases Sad New Song 'Heartbreak Sending Path'
Nuch Vilawan has released a new molam song titled 'Ok Hak Song Thang' that blends heartbreak lyrics with the traditional Sorapanya melody. Inspired by village elders and Phutai culture, the track features local instrumentation and costumes, and its music video depicts a love thwarted by a dowry dispute.
Nuch Vilawan explains that 'Ok Hak Song Thang' means playing the role of the broken-hearted one so that her former love can find happiness, describing herself as a sacrificial figure possibly cursed to endless sadness. She notes that the song features the Sorapanya melody, a traditional Thai musical mode passed down through generations, rich with customs and culture from the Phutai community of A. Jinni Phutai’s hometown, where Sorapanya melody contests still occur. The melody was composed by A. Jinni Phutai herself, and she invited local women who have competed in Sorapanya performances to appear in the music video. When asked if the Sorapanya melody helps convey sadness, Nuch laughs and says that while her previous song 'Jop Sano' brought tears like a cup, this new piece feels like a flood covering Bangkok. She feels personally heartbroken by the song, believing that hurting someone’s heart deserves a strong verbal response. The lyrics are based on a real-life story from a grandmother in A. Jinni Phutai’s village, and the recording involved village elders and musicians, including renowned teachers from past albums such as the live ensemble from 'Bow Rak Si Dam' and percussion, sor, and khaen players from mother Hannie Si Isan, giving the track a rare, authentic live feel. Instrumentation includes the pin (Thai lute), so (Thai fiddle), and for the first time the pong lang, a traditional drum from Kalasin province where A. Jinni Phutai originates. Nuch’s outfit reflects Phutai identity: a black-and-yellow costume from her fine arts college in Roi Et, representing the three Phutai tribes of Kalasin, while the backup dancers wear black-and-red Phutai attire. The music video tells a tale of a couple blocked by the woman’s mother, who demands a 500,000-baht dowry; the man offers only 5,000, leading the mother to feel insulted and force a breakup. Afterward, the man calls to say he has found someone else, prompting viewers to comment that the woman seems possessed or insane, illustrating how love can blind people.
