OBEC Allocates Flood Aid to 668 Schools Across 29 Provinces
OBEC reported that flooding has affected 828 schools across 29 provinces, providing an initial relief grant of 35,000 baht to 668 of them. The agency is assessing structural damage, arranging repairs and delivering psychological support for students and staff, with oversight from the Ministry of Education. Officials aim to restore normal teaching and learning as quickly as possible.
The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) said 828 schools in 29 provinces have been hit by floods. As of October 12, 2026, OBEC Secretary-General Thanu WanDech revealed that the agency has already distributed an initial relief grant of 35,000 baht to each of 668 affected schools to ease hardship and support school operations.
OBEC has assigned its Design Office under the Administration Office to quickly survey damage to school infrastructure, buildings and grounds, prioritizing structural safety while also assessing needs for teaching materials, media and equipment so schools can resume education safely and appropriately.
Thanu added that OBEC will swiftly compile damage data to consider further budget allocations for repairing and restoring facilities, and will organize relief and psychological recovery activities for students, teachers and education personnel. This will be carried out in coordination with school‑based psychologists from the regional education offices to ensure proper care and a swift return to normal life.
The government and the Ministry of Education, led by Minister Prasert Chanthararongthong, expressed concern for affected schools, students, teachers and staff, urging OBEC to provide comprehensive and ongoing assistance in funding, repairs and mental‑health support, with student and staff safety as the top priority.
OBEC pledged to monitor the situation closely and continue assistance so schools can resume effective teaching and learning smoothly in all areas.
