Pickup Driver Dies After Slider Hits Him Head-On
A pickup driver died after colliding head-on with a slider that made an abrupt U-turn on the Navinkorn bypass in Nakhon Ratchasima during heavy rain; two passengers, including a 4-year-old child, were seriously injured.
At 8:40 a.m. on September 25, rescue workers from Suang Neinn and Na Klang subdistrict were dispatched to a U-turn area on the Bangkok-bound side of the Navinkorn bypass near Suang Neinn, Nakhon Ratchasima, following reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
At the scene, a Toyota Vigo pickup truck with Khon Kaen registration plates was found blocking the right-hand lane, facing the opposite direction. The right side of the vehicle and the driver's door area were severely crushed, with broken glass and a detached front skirt scattered on the road.
Inside the truck, a man aged approximately 60 was found trapped and killed at the steering wheel. An elderly woman and a 4-year-old child, both passengers, suffered serious injuries from the impact. Rescue workers administered first aid before rushing them to Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital. Firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment to cut open the door and carefully remove the body.
Nearby, a double-cabin slider was found parked facing the opposite direction with damage marks on its left rear end. Initial witness accounts revealed that the pickup was carrying a family of three—grandfather, grandmother, and grandchild—heading to Bangkok. At the accident location, heavy rain was falling. The slider abruptly swerved to the right lane to make a U-turn with a wide arc, but the following pickup driver could not stop in time and collided with the slider's rear with full force, trapping the driver and fatally compressing him.
Investigators from Suang Neinn Police Station have examined the scene and gathered evidence for further legal proceedings.
