Pickup Truck Driver Runs Red Light, Kills Woman in Loei
A 52-year-old woman died when a speeding pickup truck ran a red light and struck her motorcycle at a Loei intersection on September 8, throwing her body more than 20 meters.
On September 8 at 8:20 p.m., Muang Loei police received reports of a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle at Kamkerd Phet intersection on the Loei–Chiang Khan road in Muang Loei district, Loei province. One person died. Police, hospital staff, and rescue volunteers arrived to find Kaenkaew, 52, from Kamkerd Phet subdistrict, deceased. Her Honda Wave motorcycle was severely damaged. A pickup truck was parked at a nearby petrol station with visible collision damage to its front. The male driver, 50, was standing by awaiting questioning.
Initial investigation determined the pickup truck was traveling at high speed into Loei town when the driver ran a red light. Kaenkaew had a green signal and was turning right into a residential area when the truck struck her violently, launching her body more than 20 meters before she died at the roadside. Dash-camera footage from a good samaritan recorded the collision.
Police charged the driver with reckless driving causing death or injury and running a red traffic light.
