Highway Police Officer Shot Multiple Times in Chachoengsao
22 Jul Khaosod

On July 23, Chachoengsao police received a report of a gunfire dispute resulting in injuries near the Bang Kla Highway Police service unit in Tha Thong Luang subdistrict. Officers found Sergeant Yutthapong shot multiple times with a 9mm handgun in the chest, left arm, and hip, with bullets lodged in his body. He remained conscious and was transported to Buddhasothorn Hospital. At the scene, police apprehended Officer Pitsanu Malayson, who was waiting to surrender. Preliminary investigation revealed both officers work at the same service station with rotating 10-day shifts. Yutthapong is the station supervisor; Pitsanu's shift happened to start that day. The two, along with approximately 10 other police personnel, had attended a gathering at a restaurant in Plaeng Yao district. Tensions over work-related matters began at the restaurant and continued after they returned to the service station. Unable to resolve the dispute verbally, Pitsanu retrieved a handgun and fired over 10 shots, seriously wounding Yutthapong. A nearby resident heard shouting and multiple gunshots, then witnessed the incident through a window. Police are collecting evidence and will pursue legal proceedings.

Monsoon Brings Heavy Rain Across Thailand Including Bangkok
22 Jul Khaosod

The Thai Meteorological Department is warning of a southwest monsoon system sweeping across Thailand, affecting the North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions along with Bangkok and its surroundings. A strong low-pressure zone over the Pacific Ocean is forecast to intensify into a tropical depression between July 24–25.

The 24-hour weather forecast issued July 23 predicts heavy rain in scattered areas across the Northern, Northeastern, Central, Bangkok, and Eastern regions. The southwest monsoon has moderate strength over Thailand, the Andaman Sea, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam. Residents in the North and upper Northeast are advised to prepare for hazardous heavy and accumulated rainfall.

Sea conditions show waves of 1–2 meters in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, approximately 1 meter in the lower Andaman Sea, and over 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishing vessels are urged to exercise caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms.

Regional forecasts show thunderstorms with 70% coverage in the North (affecting Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun), 60% coverage in the Northeast (Udon Thani, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani), 60% in the Central region, and 60% in the East. The South (east coast) expects 30% thunderstorm coverage, while the west coast anticipates 40% coverage. Temperatures range from 22–28°C lows to 29–36°C highs depending on region, with southwest winds of 10–35 km/h.

A som tam vendor in Pattaya stabbed a customer in the neck during a street altercation on July 23, claiming self-defense after the woman threw ice and damaged her display case in Bang Lamung District.

Pattaya Vendor Stabs Customer in Street Fight
22 Jul Khaosod

On July 23, emergency responders in Pattaya were called to a dispute with injuries in the Pattaya Beachside Alley 13/2 area in Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri. Officers from Pattaya City Police Station and rescue volunteers rushed to the scene, where crowds of residents and tourists gathered in shock.

Ms. Wan, 33, a tomboy, was found with a knife wound to the neck and bleeding heavily. She recounted that she had intervened to stop the som tam vendor from bothering her mother figure (a neighboring food vendor, not a biological relative), but was instead cursed at and attacked with a cutting knife multiple times.

Ms. Rungarun, 55, the som tam vendor accused of the attack, explained that the injured woman had come in ranting that she had a problem with a nearby food stall owner—though there had been no actual conflict. The woman threw ice at her and smashed her display case. Unable to tolerate it, Rungarun grabbed her papaya-cutting knife and slashed in self-defense. She admitted to the attack and the verbal abuse, saying she had previously given the woman food and water out of kindness.

A nearby food vendor, known as P'Fa, 60, clarified that the injured woman was not Rungarun's biological child but liked to call her "mother." The woman had ordered food, then suddenly started quarreling with the som tam vendor, falsely claiming they had fought—which wasn't true.

Local residents added that the injured woman often caused trouble when drunk and was unpredictable. Pattaya City Police have questioned the som tam vendor at the station, while the injured woman is being treated and will give a statement once recovered to establish the true cause of the incident.

Two Brothers Flee Armed Teen Gang After Gun Threats in Chon Buri
22 Jul Khaosod

Chon Buri — Phanudech Kha-Ikai, 22, reported that he and his older cousin were pursued and attacked by approximately 6-7 teenagers on the evening of July 20 while riding their motorcycle near home. One attacker wielded a firearm and threatened them, while others threw bottles as the gang chased them on motorcycles, boxing them in from front and back. Fearing they would be shot, the brothers abandoned their bike, drew a knife for defense, and ultimately jumped a barrier to escape with their lives. CCTV footage partially captured the attack, which they reported to Pattaya City police.

The incident appears connected to a previous dispute involving one gang member who had pursued the older brother's girlfriend days earlier. Although the two sides had reportedly resolved the matter just one day before the attack, the gang apparently sought revenge. The brothers are determined to press charges and have urged police to apprehend the suspects quickly and pursue the case to its fullest extent.

Massive Fire Destroys Five Wooden Homes in Khon Kaen
22 Jul Khaosod

Firefighters from multiple municipal fire departments in Khon Kaen responded on July 23 to combat a rapidly spreading blaze that consumed five homes in Ban Don Bom, Mueang Kao Subdistrict, Mueang District. The fire spread quickly through the wooden structures in the densely populated community, requiring coordinated efforts from local fire brigades to prevent further damage to adjacent buildings. Officials including Khon Kaen Governor Kachon Kiat Rakpanitmani and Mueang District Officer Pichhai Wanta directed firefighting efforts that took approximately one hour to bring under control.

During the operation, a tile roof collapsed, injuring firefighters who were clearing the area. Medical personnel provided first aid before transporting those injured to receive treatment for wounds about 3 centimeters wide. The homeowner, a 54-year-old man named Noon, was absent when the fire started. Residents spotted smoke billowing from the second floor before the fire erupted with intensity. Initial investigation suggests the cause was likely electrical short circuit, though police forensics will conduct further examination.

Governor Kachon Kiat instructed village leaders to survey older homes at risk of electrical hazards and advise residents to have faulty wiring inspected, as electrical short circuits remain a leading cause of residential fires in the community.
