Prime Minister Anutin says he will sue iLaw director Yingluck Achananon for defamation after she accused him and eight others of involvement in a Senate impeachment case without sufficient evidence.

PM Anutin Presses Defamation Lawsuit Against iLaw Director
22 Jul Khaosod

On July 22, 2025, at Nong Nooch Garden in Chon Buri, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Chaiyawongse gave an interview regarding his plan to file a defamation suit against Yingluck Achananon, director of iLaw, who accused nine Palang Pracharath members of involvement in a Senate impeachment case, including Anutin's name. Anutin stressed that under the law, any accusation must be backed by clear evidence and the case is still in the judicial process with no formal filing yet.

Anutin said that whoever Yingluck is, she cannot simply name people in a judicial ruling and cause them harm. He questioned the credibility of the witnesses cited in her report, noting that while everyone has the right to speak, they must take responsibility for what they say. When asked whether Yingluck had political motives, Anutin said he does not know her intentions but suggested she may be disappointed and fearful that Palang Pracharath is doing well.

Regarding a potential lawsuit scope, Anutin said the decision rests with Suphachai Jaisamutr, the party's legal representative, who was tasked by the party to pursue the case. He noted that such disputes have happened before, but this time there would be no settlement or mercy plea. Anutin emphasized that Yingluck, as an influencer with followers, must think before speaking. On the Senate impeachment case itself, Anutin said he has no involvement and therefore no concern, adding that the case predates his appointment as prime minister and he was in opposition for three to four months with no power to influence it.

LONDON, United Kingdom — 22 July 2026, Thai ice cream brand Dream Cones has attracted the attention of attendees at Thai Festival London 2026 after showcasing its three-dimensional ice cream bars inspired by Thai identity, with each bar selling for around £5 (approximately 220 baht).

Dream Cones offered a variety of flavours, including mango, coconut and taro. Many festivalgoers shared photos and reviews on social media, saying the flavours were comparable to those served in Thailand, with the elephant-shaped ice cream receiving particular praise. Several visitors also commented that the ice creams were so beautifully crafted they were "afraid to eat them."

At the festival, the brand showcased its signature three-dimensional ice cream bars featuring designs inspired by Thai culture and identity. It also released promotional images of the products alongside iconic London landmarks, including Tower Bridge, highlighting Thai-made products on the international stage.

The buzz surrounding Dream Cones prompted many Thai netizens to express pride in seeing a homegrown brand gain recognition among international consumers. Many noted that although the ice cream was priced significantly higher than in Thailand, it demonstrated how Thai products could command premium prices overseas while enhancing the country's reputation for high-quality goods.

One social media user who attended Thai Festival London wrote: "It's genuinely delicious and tastes just like the ice cream in Thailand, especially the taro flavour. It's also so beautifully made that you don't want to eat it." The comment echoed many other reviews praising both the flavour and the artistic presentation of the products.

SCGD Posts Strong Core Profit, H1 EBITDA Hits 1.57 Billion Baht
22 Jul Khaosod

SCGD reported strong operational results for Q2 and the first half of 2026, accelerating business transformation and creating new business opportunities while paying an interim dividend of 0.155 baht per share. CEO Nampol Malichai disclosed that Q2 2026 recorded a loss of 282 million baht, down from a 227% decline year-on-year, while the six-month period showed a loss of 35 million baht or 108% decline. Excluding non-recurring expenses—mainly asset impairments and restructuring costs from plant consolidation in Thailand—overall performance for Q2 and H1 2026 was strong.

Q2 results included adjusted EBITDA of 805 million baht and adjusted profit attributable to shareholders of 268 million baht, while H1 achieved adjusted EBITDA of 1,566 million baht and adjusted shareholder profit of 500 million baht. The non-recurring expenses were largely one-time and non-cash items. Improved performance stemmed from growth in foreign revenue, particularly Vietnam, effective cost management to offset energy price volatility, and disciplined financial management, allowing the company to maintain profitability levels.

The company plans to accelerate growth through business expansion, regional network strengthening, and strategic partnerships for long-term development. The board approved an interim dividend of 0.155 baht per share totaling 256 million baht (60% payout ratio of adjusted net profit) payable on August 19, 2026, with a record date of August 5, 2026 and ex-dividend date of August 4, 2026.

11-Year-Old's Stealing Habit Forces Family to Leave Village
22 Jul Khaosod

Village residents exasperated by 11-year-old's repeated theft; parents asked to relocate. An 11-year-old boy whose habit of stealing small items from neighbors has caused ongoing distress was the subject of a meeting on July 22, 2025 between village leaders, committee members from Baan Khwang Pao village (Groups 9 and 11) in tambon Ban Pae, Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai, and the boy's parents who are renting a house in the local lychee orchard community. The child's regular petty theft has troubled residents for some time, creating both irritation and concern. When apprehended, villagers declined to take legal action given his age. After discussions with the parents about resolving the problem, village authorities requested they vacate the rental property, and the landlord confirmed he would not renew their lease. The couple agreed to move but asked for time to gather their belongings and find new housing. This family previously lived in Hod district and was asked to leave that village for the same reason—their son's stealing habit—though residents there also declined to pursue charges. They subsequently moved to rent a house at Baan Khwang Pao, only to face relocation once again.

PM Anuthins Vows Crackdown on Lawbreakers Nationwide
22 Jul Khaosod

At 10:00 a.m. on July 22, 2025, at Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in Chachoengsao Province, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed approximately 1,200 local government officials, headmen, and community leaders. He pledged full government backing to crack down on scams, gambling dens, illegal entertainment venues, and drug trafficking networks. Anutin stated that officials cannot be considered true public servants if they tolerate lawbreaking, using a Thai expression to compare criminals operating in official jurisdictions to deliberately insulting government authority—something no one would accept.

The Prime Minister assured officials that taking firm action against criminals would not jeopardize their positions; instead, honest enforcement of duties would lead to promotion. He instructed all authorities to pursue lawbreakers "to the fullest extent" without fear of influence or intimidation, and to dismantle entire criminal networks, not just individual offenders. Anutin called for special vigilance against drug trafficking, cybercrime, and powerful individuals exploiting their influence. He also emphasized that combating drugs is a national priority and that all provinces must coordinate efforts to stop the trade, distribution, and spread of narcotics.

Parliament Speaker Awaits Court Documents Before Special Session on 400B Baht Loan Decree

Parliament is waiting for Constitutional Court documents before scheduling a special session to debate a 400-billion-baht government borrowing decree, with timing uncertain due to royal ceremonies and the approaching August legislative sess

Parliament Speaker Awaits Court Documents Before Special Session on 400B Baht Loan Decree
22 Jul Khaosod

On July 22 at Parliament, Sopon Saramun, president of the House of Representatives, said the government has not yet signaled its readiness to open a special session to consider a 400-billion-baht borrowing decree, as the process must wait for the Constitutional Court to notify Parliament first. The House will then formally notify the Cabinet to request the convening of the special session. The timing is uncertain because next week is largely occupied by royal ceremonies, and consideration will be given the following week. A regular parliamentary session typically begins in mid-August, which is not far away, but the exact timing will depend on what is most convenient and practical. Some members have also reported personal travel commitments abroad. When asked whether a specific date has been discussed, Sopon clarified that it is not a matter of negotiation but rather waiting for the necessary documents; once they reach Parliament, the House must forward them to the Cabinet, whose decision on timing is a separate matter within the remaining window for opening the regular session.

Tour Bus Assault on Motorway Investigated; Company Denies Attacker Was Employee
22 Jul Khaosod

A tour bus company has clarified details of a violent motorway incident captured on video, in which a man in dark clothing was seen punching a bus driver. The company says the attacker was not an employee but a porter hired to help load luggage. The incident occurred when a tour bus not part of an organized convoy of 10 buses suddenly cut in front of the group, which was traveling with a lead vehicle. The apparently angry attacker blamed the driver for the dangerous maneuver, which nearly caused the convoy bus to swerve and could have triggered a chain-reaction collision of all 10 vehicles. Police are investigating the identity of the man in the video and will question all parties on Friday, July 24, 2569. Authorities are also checking who arranged the convoy's lead vehicle.

Teacher Files Complaint Over Husband's Misdiagnosis Death
22 Jul Khaosod

A teacher known as Khru Saai filed complaints with the Medical Council and Health Service Support Department (HSSD), alleging that an internist at a prominent private hospital misdiagnosed her husband's condition, resulting in his death. She also requested an investigation by the Nursing Council into the nurses involved in the case.

On July 22, 2025, at the HSSD office under the Ministry of Public Health, Maj. Dr. Thanakrit Jittrareeyarattana, secretary to the deputy minister of Social Development and Human Security, accompanied Khru Saai (Ms. Benjapon Panpetch), a teacher and influencer from Ratchaburi Province, to file her complaint.

Khru Saai seeks a standards inspection of Sancamillo Hospital in Ban Po District, Ratchaburi Province, regarding her husband's treatment and death. She alleges that the hospital's internist made a misdiagnosis that led to her husband's death, and she submitted supporting documents with her complaint.

Dr. Puvadet Surakote, director of the HSSD, assigned Dr. Akam Praditsuwanna, deputy director of the HSSD, and Sarooj Yodpradist, director of the Legal Division, to receive the complaint. Dr. Akam expressed condolences to Khru Saai for the loss of her husband and assured her that the HSSD would ensure justice for the victim. He stated that the private hospital would be inspected again, with HSSD staff assigned to investigate the facts from all parties and serve as mediators to facilitate a fair resolution between the hospital and the victim.

Khru Saai thanked all parties for their assistance in investigating the facts, expressing confidence that justice would be served and that all matters would be resolved according to the law. She acknowledged the hospital's clarifications but stated she believes the truth will emerge. She noted that while her husband can no longer speak, she remains able to speak and is prepared to seek justice. She emphasized her presence throughout his treatment and her commitment to speaking on his behalf and caring for their family, expressing faith that her late husband is sending her strength. She concluded by asking for understanding as this is the day before his funeral, assuring that she will speak for him and care for their family's well-being to the best of her ability.

Maj. Dr. Thanakrit then accompanied Khru Saai to the Medical Council to file a complaint regarding the medical ethics of the treating physician. Gen. Dr. Itthaporn Kancharoen, secretary-general of the Medical Council, received the complaint.

Gen. Dr. Itthaporn stated that when a victim files a complaint in person, it provides more factual information. He explained that the Medical Council's investigation process includes both ethics review and inquiries, which are conducted thoroughly before information is forwarded to the Royal College of Physicians for further consideration.

Previously, the Medical Council had requested information from relevant agencies including the HSSD and the provincial health office, as well as from the private hospital. The next step will involve summoning all relevant parties for testimony. The Medical Council will then compile information from all parties and forward it to the Royal College of Physicians for review of the physician's diagnostic process to assess whether the treatment was conducted correctly.
