PM Arrives in Tokyo, Cheers Thai Athletes at Asian Games
Prime Minister Anuthin arrived in Tokyo to chair a government coordination meeting focused on boosting Japanese investment and trade, particularly in the automotive sector, while also cheering Thai athletes at the Asian Games.
Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister have arrived in Tokyo, Japan, and will chair a Thai team meeting on September 21 at the Imperial Tokyo hotel, according to a statement from Prime Minister's Office spokesperson Ekkapop Pierpisesn on September 20. The meeting will review operational performance, challenges, and proposals to align Thai government agencies in Japan with national policy goals, particularly in promoting Japanese business investment and trade. The focus includes the automotive industry—crucial to Thailand's economy—expanding supply chains, and positioning Thailand as a hub for future industries to benefit Thai citizens and the private sector.
The Thai delegation will include representatives from Thai embassies, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Commerce, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Industry, and Labor, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Board of Investment (BOI). Together they will coordinate diplomacy, economics, politics, society, and culture to serve Thailand's national interests.
The Prime Minister has also introduced a "Team Thailand Plus" initiative to invite Thai private-sector actors abroad to participate in shaping economic and social development strategies.
Spokesperson Ekkapob noted that Japan ranks third among Thailand's trading partners after China and the United States, with bilateral trade valued at over 53.2 billion U.S. dollars, representing 7.77 percent of Thailand's total foreign trade. Thai exports to Japan reached 23.5 billion dollars. Japan remains Thailand's largest foreign investor, with accumulated investment valued at 184.7 billion baht in 2025. The BOI has approved 248 Japanese investment projects worth 67.2 billion baht, ranking fifth among all approved foreign investment. Main sectors include machinery and automotive, metal and materials industries, and electrical and electronic appliances.
"Beyond the team meeting, the Prime Minister sends his encouragement to all Thai athletes competing in this Asian Games. Whether the results are favorable or not, each athlete represents Thailand's commitment and brings honor to the nation in international competition—a source of pride for all Thai people," the spokesman added.
