Rayong Residents Plead for Drainage Solution as Floods Recur
Residents in a low-lying Rayong community are pleading for urgent drainage improvements after heavy rain repeatedly floods rental homes with water half a meter deep, with undersized pipes unable to handle rainfall volume.
Heavy rain is battering multiple areas in Rayong province, with continuous downpours occurring. Although rainfall has not disrupted main traffic routes or agricultural areas, the low-lying rental housing community in Soi Nong Wa, Huai Pong subdistrict, Mueang district, has suffered severe flooding. The drainage system cannot handle the volume of water rapidly enough, causing floodwaters to overflow into rental units to a height of approximately 50 centimeters. Residents say this problem recurs every time it rains heavily. An investigation found that the drainage pipes in the area are too small to discharge large volumes of rainwater in time. Although residents have previously attempted to solve the problem by raising floor levels with concrete, water still floods in during heavy rain. Residents are appealing through the media to the relevant authorities responsible to visit the area, investigate, and urgently find a solution to improve drainage efficiency and end this cycle of recurring flooding.
