PM Pitches Clean Energy Plan to European Investors

PM Pitches Clean Energy Plan to European Investors

Prime Minister Anuthins led the economic team in presenting a "clean energy and green industry" roadmap to over 40 leading European companies at Government House. Alongside him were Industry Minister Warawut Silpaacha, Energy Minister Eknath Prom-Phan, and Public Health Minister Pattana Prom-Pattana, who briefed European investors on clean energy direction and modern industries aligned with European investment interests.

Energy Minister Eknath Prom-Phan stated that persistent global uncertainty has inevitably driven energy price volatility, especially from Middle East tensions. The government must therefore build energy resilience while raising the share of renewable energy and transitioning Thailand toward greater clean energy consumption.

The government is shifting from merely regulating to actively supporting and facilitating business expansion, particularly by offering industries and households more options for producing or sourcing clean electricity through cost-effective technology aligned with Net Zero goals.

A recent National Energy Policy Committee resolution from July 15 approved broadening direct power purchase agreements (DPPA), initially limited to Data Centers, to cover all industries seeking clean energy—a significant signal to European investors, as clean electricity is no longer just an energy cost but a modern supply chain requirement, particularly for companies adhering to ESG standards and greenhouse gas reduction targets.

Within two months, the Energy Ministry will release a new Power Development Plan (PDP), a watershed shift for Thailand's energy system, balancing security, sustainability, and competitive energy pricing. Industry Minister Warawut noted that Thailand prioritizes BCG, ESG, and the 2050 Net Zero target, aligning Thai industry with global trends. Many Thai industries are already adapting to clean energy and environmentally reduced production.

The government is also accelerating removal and revision of over 7,000 regulations hindering business to create an agile investment climate. Thailand has 80 industrial estates across 18 provinces ready to welcome European investment in capital, technology, and strengthened, sustainable Thai industry.

During discussions, European business representatives proposed collaboration with the Thai government in high-value sectors: low-carbon vehicles, smart infrastructure, industrial and building energy efficiency, health innovation, bioscience, finance, insurance, and aged-care support systems—positioning Thailand as a future industrial hub, not merely a low-cost manufacturing base.

2h ago Khaosod

Devotees are invited to participate in a major merit-making project at Wat Sangkharam in Sukhothai province to construct a 35-meter Buddha statue dedicated to Thailand's former kings. The project, titled "Phutthauthayan Chaloem Phra Kiarti" (Buddha Park Commemorating Royal Glory), aims to honor past Thai monarchs who upheld the nation's independence and to express gratitude for their contributions to the country and Buddhism.

Reverend Phra Rajvaj Dharmmrangsi, abbot of Wat Indraviharn in Bangkok, recently visited the construction site at Wat Sangkharam (Luang Pho Jong) in Ban Dan Lan Hoi District, Sukhothai province, to oversee progress on this auspicious endeavor. The project symbolizes the profound faith of Buddhists and was established to dedicate merit to all former Thai monarchs, who were instrumental in protecting the nation's sovereignty, while expressing gratitude toward past kings, the nation, and Buddhism. The project aims to preserve virtuous deeds and faith for future generations.

The main Buddha image, standing 35 meters tall and magnificently crafted, is mounted on a pavilion for a total height of approximately 45 meters. Construction work is progressing steadily, with gold mosaic being applied to the Buddha image and protective nagas being sculpted to safeguard the faith. The Buddha Park will serve as a place for Buddhist practice and as one of Thailand's most beautiful Buddhist monuments.

This construction project is considered a major merit-making endeavor that requires the spiritual strength and support of Buddhists throughout the country to ensure its successful completion. The public is invited to contribute financially to support the project and share in this historic display of faith.

Those wishing to participate in the merit-making can contribute at Wat Indraviharn, Bang Khun Phrom, Bangkok (Account Number 070-0-31564-0) or at Wat Sangkharam (Luang Pho Jong), Ban Dan Lan Hoi District, Sukhothai province (Account Number 020485864738).

May the merit of your generosity bring blessings and the benefits of constructing this Buddha image and honoring the compassion of Thailand's former kings bring happiness, prosperity, good health, and success to you and your families.

Lawmaker Urges Government to Speed Up Local Exam Fraud Cases

A Thai lawmaker has criticized the government for failing to make progress on a local exam fraud scandal involving 4.5 billion baht in losses, with no charges filed or witness summons issued a month after the scheme was exposed despite clai

Lawmaker Urges Government to Speed Up Local Exam Fraud Cases
2h ago Khaosod

At 2 p.m. on July 16, 2025, at parliament, Phakamon Hunnanon, a list-system MP from Pheu Thai and chair of the House committee on political development, public media, and citizen participation, expressed disappointment at a committee meeting reviewing allegations of fraud in local government examinations. The committee had invited representatives from the Central Investigation Police, the Ministry of Interior, Srinakharinwirot University (SWRU), and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to brief lawmakers.

Hunnanon said the meeting was deeply disappointing because the agencies presented had made no progress whatsoever. Although the Ministry of Interior has established a task force and the Prime Minister said there was no favoritism, the investigation must be pursued to the root. However, the committee found that no charges have been filed against anyone beyond three names already public, and not even witness summons have been issued.

"This is the most shocking thing—nearly a month has passed since the local exam fraud scandal broke. What is happening? Why hasn't a single charge been filed? The most disappointing part today is that AMLO confirmed no request for financial tracking has been sent to them," Hunnanon said.

She noted that the alleged fraud caused 4.5 billion baht in losses. While all agencies claimed public action, AMLO confirmed no one has requested financial trace records. This creates a false impression of progress when legal action may be impossible due to delays. Police stated no charges have been filed; the Ministry of Interior cited charges without naming individuals and provided no information to police. Therefore, it will likely be difficult to see this case reach a conclusion.

Hunnanon questioned whether the Prime Minister's claim of "no rigging" was credible. Evidence showed uniformed officers altering exam papers, a clear offense that police and the National Anti-Corruption Commission could prosecute immediately. Yet no charges have been filed—not even witness summons issued. She demanded the government explain what the public actions were about and why no legal proceedings have begun.

Hunnanon also questioned whether authorities were hesitant due to fear that pursuing the case would uncover a larger scandal. AMLO remains waiting for relevant agencies to request financial trace records. Critically, as AMLO falls under the Prime Minister's supervision, she questioned why a major corruption case has seen no financial investigation one month in—and where the suspects have been transferred in the interim.

On July 16, 2025, Wat Pradu Royal Temple in Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram, held a merit-making ceremony marking the 65th birthday anniversary of Phra Ratchapavanavachirajarn, the abbot and provincial Buddhist leader. The morning featured monk alms offerings for 66 monks, fish releases, blood donation drives in cooperation with the Thai Red Cross, and education scholarships for Pali students and pupils from three local schools.

The event's highlight came when Ms. Phongpan Pathapi, 51, a cold storage business owner, and MPS Interfood company donated 10 tons of premium export-grade fruit — 5 tons of durian and 5 tons of mangosteen — for distribution to attendees. The generosity drew thousands of people from inside and outside the district, prompting the temple to issue queue cards for orderly distribution with assistance from temple staff, local officials, and Amphawa police.

Phongpan explained that her donation stemmed from deep respect for the abbot's spiritual merit, noting that he has always blessed her home and business endeavors, leading to continuous prosperity. Beyond honoring the abbot on his birthday, she said the gesture also supports local durian farmers during peak harvest season. The event exemplified both gratitude toward the respected religious leader and broader community values of charity, educational opportunity, and mutual aid.

Thailand Cracks Down on Auto Repair Shops Over 1,700 Consumer Complaints
2h ago Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi, overseeing the Consumer Protection Board (CPB), led an inspection of Toyota Buss Limited's Vibhavadi Rangsit branch in Bangkok alongside police from Jatujak District. Since 2022, the CPB has received over 1,700 complaints about auto repair services, mostly concerning engine and body repairs with unclear pricing, unexpected additional charges, and incomplete payment documentation that fails to meet legal requirements.

Nearly 1,200 cases have been resolved to date, with the remainder still in process. The CPB will expand pilot inspection results to other areas and establish a nationwide database of auto repair businesses in Bangkok. Supamas emphasized that vehicles are essential daily assets and repair quality directly affects travel safety, so consumers must receive complete information at three stages: before repairs (estimate with parts and labor costs), during repairs (timeline and parts specifications), and after repairs (warranty details with clear duration or mileage).

When payment is made, repair shops must immediately issue a receipt with all nine required details—this document protects consumers and enables them to claim rights if problems arise later. However, many issues originate before service agreements are finalized. The CPB is working to strengthen protections to cover pre-service contracts so consumers know the work list, price, and conditions from the start, not just at payment.

Supamas warned all repair shops that issuing proper receipts is not a courtesy but a legal obligation. Violators face up to one year imprisonment, fines up to 200,000 baht, or both. Consumers who feel cheated can file complaints at the CPB hotline 1166 or provincial ombudsman offices.
