Police General Refuses Settlement in Newin Defamation Case
Police General Seripisut Temiyaves refused to settle a defamation case with Buriram United chairman Newin Chidchob, saying he wants to prove his claims are true and will proceed through normal legal channels with trial set for August 17.
Police General Seripisut Temiyaves, list-based senator and leader of the Serirut Ruam Thai Party, posted on Facebook on July 29 regarding the Buriram Court's mediation hearing in the defamation and false report case filed by Newin Chidchob, chairman of Buriram United Football Club, on August 6. He stated that he will not settle because he wants to prove the truth and has already informed court officials through a phone call that he has no intention to mediate and requests the case to proceed through normal legal channels. On July 30, he will travel to Buriram province with his attorney to gather evidence on-site again so that his lawyer can view the location and understand the facts before the trial hearing begins on August 17. Seripisut also announced that on July 31, he will go to the court to request that the court issue summons for witnesses, documents, and individuals to serve as evidence in his cross-examination.
