Prayut Admits Coalition Backing Error After Year
People's Party deputy leader Prayut admits the party made a wrong decision a year ago regarding a coalition agreement with Bhumjaithai, saying voters punished them in recent elections and members must work to fix resulting problems.
At noon on September 6, Prayut Wachcharasindhuthai, a People's Party list MP and deputy party leader, addressed remarks made by former red-shirt leader Natthawut Saikua regarding a memorandum of understanding between the People's Party and Bhumjaithai Party. Prayut stated plainly that one year has passed since an event in which the party made a wrong decision, and that the party was punished by voters through the recent election. He stressed that all People's Party members bear responsibility for the error and must work to fix the problems arising from that decision.
When asked whether this explanation was reason enough to avoid investigating alleged vote-buying of senators, Prayut said that during government policy debate, which occurred shortly after the Prime Minister vote, People's Party deputy leader Wayo Otsawannarak raised the matter and provided information relevant to the current discussion. Prayut acknowledged that the decision from that day may have had negative consequences. He views his remaining three years as a lawmaker as partly devoted to addressing the problems caused by the three-second endorsement given on that day.
