Seven-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Water Tank at Nonthaburi Home
A seven-year-old girl drowned in a large water tank at a Nonthaburi home after accidentally slipping and falling in while the property door was left open on September 5.
Police at Bang Bua Thong station in Nonthaburi received a report on September 5 at 8 p.m. of a seven-year-old girl who had drowned and gone missing in a water tank at a residential property in Bang Rak Pattana subdistrict. Rescue divers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation were dispatched to the scene. The water tank measures approximately 24 by 50 meters and is about 3 meters deep. When relatives found one of the girl's sandals floating in the water, they suspected she had drowned and asked the homeowner to check security camera footage.
The footage showed the girl accidentally slipping and falling into the tank before disappearing. Foundation rescue officers took about 20 minutes to locate and retrieve her body from the water. A neighbor, 53, explained that the girl and her grandmother normally came to the front of the house to ask for money, but that day the homeowner had left the door open while waiting for friends to visit for lunch. This gave the grandmother and granddaughter access to enter the property, where the girl wandered to the edge of the tank and fell in.
The girl's father has formed a new family elsewhere, and her mother is deceased, leaving her to live with only her grandmother in difficult circumstances. The homeowner noted that it was an accidental fall, and the girl's body will be taken for funeral rites and cremation at Wat Ratsadua Prakong Temple, which waives fees for the poor. Police collected security camera footage as evidence, and the body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.
