Son Discovers Elderly Mother Abused by Caregiver

A 45-year-old man from Chachoengsao traveled to Saimai with his girlfriend to file a complaint after discovering his 78-year-old mother, who has suffered a stroke and dementia for two years, was being abused by her caregiver. His mother had initially lived in an elderly care facility but was brought home when her condition worsened. The family hired a caregiver named Nab Duen, 44, through an elderly care company for an initial six-day trial at 800 baht per day, then hired her permanently from October 2568 at 26,000 baht per month with room and board.

Initially, Nab Duen provided excellent care, helping the mother bathe and attend physical therapy sessions. However, bruises began appearing on the mother's body. When Nab Duen was confronted, she made excuses, claiming the mother had bumped against the toilet or that blood-thinning medications caused the marks. On August 19, the girlfriend heard the mother screaming and rushed to find Nab Duen wrapping a towel tightly around her head. The family immediately reviewed the closed-circuit camera footage and discovered days of violent abuse. They fired Nab Duen on the spot and filed a police report at Chachoengsao City Police Station.

The family also discovered threatening language directed at the mother on the footage, with Nab Duen apparently warning that they would send her back to a care facility. Bruising was found on the mother's body, suggesting possible abuse in the bathroom. The son stated he was devastated but reviewed the entire footage to document the evidence for prosecution. The founder of the Saimai Must Survive Facebook page is coordinating with police to pursue the case to the fullest extent. The family is awaiting the results of a medical examination to use as evidence in the case.
