Elderly Man Abused at Thai Senior Care Centre Speaks Out
An elderly man who was sent to a private senior care centre in Thailand said he was confined, restrained and forced to live with psychiatric patients who stared at him at night. He claimed staff provoked him to take sleeping pills and prevented outside contact, while he witnessed other residents being physically abused. He eventually left the facility after his family located him and filed a police report, with legal action pending.
He said staff never allowed him to call anyone except the person who brought him, and he was not mentally ill yet was placed with psychiatric patients who would stare at him while he tried to sleep, leaving him feeling unsafe. The caregivers provoked him to anger in an attempt to make him take sleeping pills, which he refused, and he saw other residents being struck with oars or physically assaulted. He tried to negotiate with the centre’s owner, Aunt Cat, to leave by offering to pay his own fees, but she refused, saying she would only listen to the person who signed the contract; after his sister and a friend of his son located him and filed a police report, he was able to leave and legal proceedings are now underway.
