Man Held Wife Hostage With Knife, Police Resolved in Hour
A man in Kamphaengphet Province held his wife hostage with a knife after becoming upset over a motorcycle accident, but police negotiated his surrender within an hour and rescued the woman unharmed.
On September 6, 2569, at 10 p.m. on September 5, a hostage incident occurred in Khlong Lan District, Kamphaengphet Province, when a 30-year-old man named Wuttikrai became distressed and threatened his wife with a knife, holding her hostage.
After receiving the report, Deputy Investigation Director Thanom Immani and Prevention and Suppression Officer Banlang Statit led approximately 20 Khlong Lan Police Station officers and administrative officials to the scene for urgent response. Officers negotiated and persuaded him for over an hour until he calmed down and voluntarily surrendered the knife. The hostage was safely rescued with no injuries.
Initial investigation revealed that around midday, the man had ridden his motorcycle to the market when it overturned. Police arrived, assisted with his wound, and brought him home. His motorcycle was stored at Khlong Lan Police Station. When he arrived home, he found his wife absent and became upset. That evening, when his wife returned home after working, the village headman tried to calm him. He complained that no one cared about him, that people were concerned about his motorcycle rather than him, and accused his wife of not working hard. Around 9 p.m., he caused a disturbance at home. Police invited him to the station for counseling. However, as officers prepared to return him home, he grabbed his wife, argued with her along the way, dragged her into a shop, and held her at knifepoint.
Police took the man into custody for questioning and will proceed with legal charges.
