Thai Skater Hiro Kaewtathip Wins Historic Junior Grand Prix Medal
Thai figure skater Hiro Kaewtathip, 15, won bronze at the ISU Junior Grand Prix Bangkok, becoming the first Thai skater to medal at the Junior Grand Prix circuit with a combined score of 229.51 points.
Bangkok — On September 5, 2026, Thai figure skater Hiro Kaewtathip made history by winning bronze at the ISU Junior Grand Prix Bangkok 2026, becoming the first Thai skater to medal on the Junior Grand Prix circuit.
The 15-year-old finished third in the junior men's competition at the IWIS International Training Center in Bangkok, where young figure skaters from around the world competed from September 3 to 5.
Hiro entered the event in strong form after recently winning the junior men's title at the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy 2026 in Jakarta. He opened the Bangkok competition with an impressive short programme on September 3, scoring 81.55 points to sit third overall. In the free skating on September 5, Hiro added 147.96 points, bringing his combined score to 229.51 and securing the bronze medal.
The result also marked new personal bests for Hiro in the short programme, free skating, and total score, according to the International Skating Union. His third-place finish made him the first Thai figure skater to win a medal at an ISU Junior Grand Prix event.
Five other Thai skaters also competed in Bangkok. In the junior men's event, Chawit Chiamhatsap finished 20th, while Tharan Warasitthichai placed 26th. In the junior women's event, Phattaratida Kaneshige finished 15th, Thanapa Chumpolkoolvong 30th, and Sirinatthaya Mahittivanicha 31st.
