Rangsit Canal Exceeds Critical Level as Heavy Rain Causes Flooding

Water levels in the Rangsit Prasayuraskadej Canal at the Red Bridge measurement point in Pathum Thani reached critical levels on September 26, rising continuously until just below the top of the gauge and exceeding the alert threshold. Relentless rainfall has caused the canal and its drainage pipes to overflow, flooding roads, residential areas, and shops in the surrounding zone, particularly along Rangsit Canal Road and near the Red Bridge Market. Small vehicles and motorcycles cannot pass through some low-lying sections, with some cars abandoned in the water and engines stalling.

Rangsit Municipality has urgently installed a 200-meter barrier to slow and contain floodwaters near the Red Bridge Market economic zone and deployed pumping equipment to drain water from the area and protect residents and businesses. Governor Ekawit Meepier visited the flooded areas and confirmed that rain continues to fall across Pathum Thani, with water flowing in from the eastern side into the canal. Authorities are operating pumps at full capacity in coordination with the Irrigation Department, subdistrict and district administrative offices, and Rangsit Municipality to discharge water toward the Chao Phraya River, though water levels continue to rise beyond the critical point.

Hundreds of households across Pathum Thani, particularly in low-lying areas near the canal and Chao Phraya River, have been affected, while elevated areas in districts such as Lat Lum Kaeo and Muang remain largely unaffected. The governor stated that resolution depends on rainfall patterns; meteorological forecasts indicate continuous rain throughout the day, and even after it stops, additional upstream water masses are expected. Recovery is forecast to begin one to two days after rainfall ceases and water levels normalize.
