Rayong clothing shop seeks responsibility from customer defecating in fitting roomLegacyA clothing shop in Rayong filed a police report after a customer defecated inside a fitting room before leaving the premises, calling on the woman to accept responsibility or face legal action. The incident took place at a clothing shop on Sukhumvit Road in the Ban Chang district of Rayong on July 21. The owner said the woman has until the end of next week to come forward before legal proceedings are pursued using CCTV footage as evidence. Speaking to Channel 7, 49 year old shop assistant Joom said the customer arrived at the store at about 3.20pm in a dark blue sedan. She was wearing a black T-shirt and white trousers. According to Joom, the customer entered the shop and loudly asked to use a toilet. The staff member said she believed the woman appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, although this has not been confirmed. Photo via Channel 3 Joom said she directed the customer to the shop’s bathroom, but the woman instead picked up a pair of shorts from a display rack and entered a fitting room. After the customer left, staff noticed a strong odour coming from the fitting room. Joom said she entered the room and found human faeces on the floor along with the woman’s trousers. She then photographed the registration plate of the customer’s vehicle before contacting the shop owner. According to Joom, staff cleaned the fitting room themselves. She said the experience was distressing and encouraged customers facing emergencies to inform staff, adding that employees are willing to assist when needed. Photo via Channel 3 The shop owner said she later gave Joom 500 baht as a gesture of appreciation after the incident. The owner reported the matter to police and said she hopes the customer will come forward voluntarily before legal action becomes necessary. The incident follows a similar case previously reported in Phuket, where a restaurant owner said a foreign woman defecated outside the premises, leaving staff to clean the area. The owner also called for more public toilets to help prevent similar incidents. Another case was reported in Saraburi, where CCTV footage captured a man defecating beside a road despite a petrol station with public toilets being located about 100 metres away. Rights Groups Urge Thailand to Halt Chinese Refugee Deportation
23 Jul Khaosod

Human rights networks submitted a letter to Thailand's Legal Affairs Committee on July 23, requesting that the government halt plans to deport three Chinese refugees who have already received UNHCR status cards. Puthanee Kangkan, director of Fortify Rights, expressed concern that the Thai government may push the three individuals back to China or Hong Kong, where they face risks of execution or continued detention. Under Thailand's Anti-Torture and Enforced Disappearance Prevention Act, the country is legally prohibited from returning individuals to countries where they may face torture, cruel treatment, or inhumane punishment.

The principle of non-refoulement is a fundamental international law protection that all countries must uphold, and Thailand is a signatory to multiple international human rights treaties that protect refugee status. Thai authorities should urgently release the three from immigration detention and permit them to resettle in a third country. Committee chairman Rangsiman Rome acknowledged the concern, noting that if the facts prove valid, such action would contradict Thailand's domestic law. He stated the committee will investigate the matter and question all relevant parties before proceeding further.

LHFG Targets 10-12% Credit Growth Amid 2% Thai Economic Outlook

LHFG projects Thailand's economy will grow 2% in 2025 despite external risks like trade tariffs and oil price volatility, while targeting 10-12% credit growth supported by strong first-half earnings up 37% year-on-year.

LHFG Targets 10-12% Credit Growth Amid 2% Thai Economic Outlook
23 Jul Khaosod

LHFG forecasts Thailand's 2025 economy will expand by approximately 2% from government stimulus measures, though it faces external risks including geopolitical tensions, trade tariffs, and volatile global financial markets. The group's research suggests global economic pressure from wars and regional conflicts could push oil prices to $80-90 per barrel, potentially reaching $100 in the latter half of the year, affecting energy-dependent nations like Thailand. The group must also monitor U.S. import tariffs and third-country export screening, which could impact Thailand's automotive, electronics, food, textile, and labor-intensive industries.

Despite these challenges, LHFG believes Thailand will benefit from AI investment, export growth, foreign direct investment, and government stimulus, supporting economic recovery in the second half. In the first half of 2025, LHFG posted net profit of 1,538.6 billion baht, up 37.3% year-on-year, with total assets reaching 425,330 billion baht, a 6.6% increase from end-2024. Total group revenue grew nearly 20%, driven by banking, securities, and fund management businesses, with banking profit up 25%, securities business growth exceeding 200%, and fund management operations up 80%.

LH Bank expanded lending 6.7% to 302,153 billion baht in the first half, outpacing the industry average of 1.8%, with growth across all customer segments. International business transactions grew notably by 27% through CTBC Bank's network—the parent company and Taiwan's top private bank—boosting trade finance fees by 147% and foreign exchange transactions. Management emphasizes quality growth with careful risk management, responsible lending expansion, financial product development for green economy support, and strengthened competitive capacity for Thai SMEs.

Thailand Launches Seoul-Thailand Bio Bridge with SK Bioscience

Thailand and South Korea launched the Seoul-Thailand Bio Bridge to connect their biotech ecosystems, with plans for a Bangkok startup innovation space and potential vaccine manufacturing partnerships with SK Bioscience.

Thailand Launches Seoul-Thailand Bio Bridge with SK Bioscience
23 Jul Khaosod

On July 23, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yuthasak Sasiprapa, along with senior officials, visited Seoul Bio Hub, one of South Korea's largest and most comprehensive biotech and medical startup incubators, known as the "Boston of Korea." The delegation received business pitches from high-potential startups whose technologies could be applied directly to Thailand, including Cursus Bio (obesity treatment), Medical AI (cardiac disease detection), NeoCannBio (cannabis extraction technology for medicine building on Thai herbal traditions), and Petra Intelligence (3D body-scanning technology for health industries).

Yuthasak highlighted the mission's key achievement: agreement to launch the Seoul-Thailand Bio Bridge to connect the biotech ecosystems of Seoul and Thailand, enabling seamless collaboration between startups from both nations in investment, joint ventures, and market expansion, supported by global accelerator SYP. Within months, Thailand will open the Seoul-Thailand Startup Innovation Space, an initiative under the Science Diplomacy policy jointly promoted by the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. Modern diplomacy, he emphasized, now centers on science, technology, and innovation rather than politics and trade alone.

In parallel discussions with SK Bioscience, a world-leading vaccine developer in the SK Group and the first company to develop a complete domestic COVID-19 vaccine for South Korea, the delegation explored technical cooperation on cell-culture-based vaccine manufacturing technology. This method surpasses traditional egg-based production by operating in a closed, sterile system, cutting production time by 2–3 months, enabling larger batches, and quickly adapting to new variants. The talks also covered positioning Thailand as a regional clinical research hub and expanding into animal vaccines to serve Thai livestock and agriculture sectors, with conclusions expected by year-end.

Yuthasak stressed that vaccine sovereignty means more than rapid, safe access during epidemics—it requires Thailand to develop and lead its own health security.

YouTrip Launches Premium Metal Card for High-Spending Travelers

YouTrip has launched YouTrip Metal, an invitation-only premium travel card in partnership with Kasikornbank, targeting Thailand's top-tier travelers who spend significantly more and visit multiple continents annually.

YouTrip Launches Premium Metal Card for High-Spending Travelers
23 Jul Khaosod

YouTrip, a multi-currency digital wallet and travel card provider, has announced a premium market expansion strategy in Thailand with the launch of "YouTrip Metal," an invitation-only travel card in partnership with Kasikornbank—Thailand's first of its kind. Juthasri Kuvinichwkul, YouTrip Thailand co-founder, said the new product emerged from continuous analysis of actual customer usage data, which revealed a distinct upper-tier user group with behavior markedly different from typical customers in travel frequency, number of countries visited, and spending value.

Company data shows A-List users spend an average of 63% more than regular users. Though representing only about 5% of Thailand's user base, this segment generates 1 billion baht in total spending, with some customers spending over 10 million baht annually across multiple currencies. Unlike typical consumers who limit travel to Asia, these customers regularly visit Europe, the United States, Africa, and Australia, even during economic slowdowns. Some use as many as 20 currencies within 12 months, and over 40% spend across four or more currencies yearly, reflecting visits to four or more countries annually.

"We didn't start by thinking a premium card was needed, but from customer data showing a user group that uses YouTrip as their top-of-wallet consistently and behaves distinctly differently," Juthasri said. "That drove the development of a product tailored to this segment." Despite high purchasing power, these customers still prioritize value—exchange rate savings can exceed 9% compared to some payment methods. YouTrip Metal is designed as more than a travel card; it builds a premium ecosystem for high-end travelers through benefits aligned with their lifestyle.

Key benefits include complimentary access to The Coral Lounge airport lounges in Thailand and Japan (three times yearly), free Metal eSIM for international roaming once per 12 months, special Cashback privileges through YouTrip Perks, and 24/7 global assistance via The Metal Priority service. The invitation-only model doesn't aim to grow user numbers but to elevate relationships with current customers. Invitations are gradually sent through the app to users meeting criteria based on frequency of use, service consistency, and spending value—not just a single high transaction.

Chinese Man Fakes Death to Escape DUI Charges

Chinese Man Fakes Death to Escape DUI Charges
23 Jul Khaosod

A Chinese man has become an online sensation after attempting to evade drunk driving charges through an implausible fake death scheme involving family members. The man, identified as Sae "Sio," was arrested on drunk driving charges in January and had two prior convictions for unlicensed and impaired driving. Under Chinese law, drunk driving carries penalties including license suspension, one to six months detention, and fines.

Sio claimed he was heavily indebted and feared a criminal record would ruin his chances at a fresh start, so he devised an elaborate escape plan. Months later, he purchased a coffin and scattered empty medicine bottles around his home to suggest a drug overdose. He used cooling equipment to lower his body temperature to appear corpse-like, while his family told authorities his face was disfigured from the overdose and kept it covered. Before sunset that day, his mother and grandmother hastily buried the coffin, while Sio fled to Yunnan province.

When police arrived to investigate, they could not conduct an autopsy as the coffin was already buried. However, multiple suspicious circumstances raised red flags: the family never sought hospital treatment, there was no death certificate from a hospital, no funeral documentation, and no proper household registration cancellation. Relatives and villagers also reported that no one except his mother and grandmother had seen his face.

Police expanded their investigation by reviewing surveillance footage, financial transactions, and phone records, which confirmed Sio was still alive. He was arrested in April and sentenced to five months detention plus a 20,000 yuan fine—roughly equivalent to 100,000 baht. His mother and grandmother were charged with harboring a criminal. The prosecutor noted that staging death to evade the law not only fails to prevent conviction but can result in additional charges. The story went viral on Chinese social media, gaining over 10 million views, with netizens criticizing that the situation could have been avoided by not driving drunk in the first place.
