Royal Cremation Ceremony For Late Queen Set For Mid-December
Thailand's government is constructing an elaborate three-tiered crematorium at Sanam Luang for the royal cremation ceremony of Queen Sirikit scheduled for mid-December, with construction expected to finish in October.
On July 7, 2025, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister visited the Royal Cremation Complex at Sanam Luang to inspect progress on construction of the royal crematorium, supporting buildings, restoration of royal carriages, and preparations for the royal cremation ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. The inspection was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Supachai Sutharmpun, Culture Minister Sabiday Thaisurasth, and senior officials from the Fine Arts Department.
The Prime Minister toured the construction site and reviewed architectural and artistic design work, the crafting of a sandalwood casket, and decoration work. The Fine Arts Department reported that the crematorium design, inspired by royal guidance, features a three-tiered crown-shaped structure adorned in blue, pink, and white, colors associated with the Queen Mother's birthday. The design incorporates graceful patterns reflecting the Queen Mother's dignity and includes decorative elements from her handicraft foundation.
The Prime Minister confirmed that construction will be completed in October 2025, with work already 90 percent finished. The department is also installing three elevators for royal processions, to be completed by August. Additionally, preliminary design work is underway for a crematorium dedicated to Princess Galyani Vadhana, ensuring it follows traditional Thai architectural principles and honors her distinguished legacy.
