Opposition Blasts Justice Minister For Dodging Parliament Inquiry

The opposition accuses Justice Minister of deliberately skipping a parliamentary inquiry about a major fraud case by claiming a last-minute meeting, arguing the scheduling conflict only arose after learning the question topic.

9h ago Khaosod

On July 2, 2025, Prisit Wattrasinthon, opposition list MP and Pheu Thai deputy party leader, posted on Facebook about an oral parliamentary question scheduled for that day. He stated that the opposition had coordinated early in the week to question the Justice Minister, even accommodating the government's advance notice request beyond normal protocol requirements.

Wattrasinthon pointed out that over the previous 1-2 days, the government never reported that the Justice Minister had conflicting foreign engagements or unavoidable tasks. He noted that in previous weeks, whenever ministers faced genuine scheduling conflicts, the government promptly notified the opposition, who would agree to ask another minister instead to preserve their questioning quota.

However, Wattrasinthon continued, the moment he formally notified the parliament vice-president that his oral question would address the progress of Special Case 24/2568—a major fraud investigation—the Justice Minister suddenly became unavailable, citing a meeting to monitor establishment of an international justice process learning center.

"If this meeting was scheduled in advance, the minister would have informed us 1-2 days ago," Wattrasinthon stated. "The only conclusion is that the minister decided this morning to attend the meeting after seeing the question topic, to use it as an excuse to avoid answering."

Wattrasinthon emphasized that under the Constitution Article 164, all ministers are accountable to parliament for matters within their jurisdiction. Since Thursday oral questions are a standing weekly agenda item, the Justice Minister's absence citing this scheduling conflict is unconvincing and clearly demonstrates the government is evading parliamentary scrutiny of the fraud case.

Stepson Shoots Stepfather Dead in Family Dispute

A 27-year-old man shot his 60-year-old stepfather dead during a family dispute over home repairs in Nakhon Ratchasima Province on July 2, then fled into a forest; police launched a manhunt with checkpoints across the region.

9h ago Khaosod

On July 2, 2025, Sikhiu Police received a report of a fatal shooting at a house in Nonna Village, Ladbuakhao Subdistrict, Sikhiu District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Officers coordinated with rescue units and related agencies to investigate the scene near a sugarcane forest in front of the house, where they found the body of 60-year-old Chamnan. He had been shot once in the left chest, with the bullet piercing his heart. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Thaapanpong, the stepson, who fled into the forest behind the house after the shooting.

Police mobilized officers to cordon off the area and issued an urgent manhunt. A homemade .22mm firearm, believed to be the weapon used, was found abandoned in the forest near the crime scene. Officers from the Regional Crime Suppression Division conducted a thorough evidence collection.

When questioned, Janya, the victim's wife, revealed that her son and husband had frequent quarrels over family matters, particularly regarding home repairs and construction. Before the incident, her son was building a new house when a heated argument erupted. The son challenged his stepfather to come down from the second floor and then retrieved a firearm. Though she tried to stop her husband from going down, fearing violence, he descended hoping to talk and resolve the dispute. The two met near the sugarcane forest, where the son shot his stepfather once, causing him to collapse and die. The son then fled into the forest.

The couple had long-standing conflicts and had argued many times, but she never expected it would escalate to fatal violence. She appealed to her son to surrender to police and face justice.

Brig. Gen. Narongsak Promtha, Commander of Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Police, stated that the incident occurred early that morning. Preliminary investigation confirmed that the stepson used a firearm to shoot his stepfather fatally before fleeing. The initial cause was identified as a family dispute, with both parties having ongoing quarrels before the conflict escalated to murder. Details about the firearm are still under investigation.

Police ordered all units to intensively pursue and apprehend the suspect, believed to still be hiding in the area. Checkpoints and surveillance were set up along escape routes in Sikhiu District, neighboring areas, Pakchong District, and Nong Sarai Subdistrict, as the suspect was reportedly using a motorcycle. Police urge the public to report any suspicious individuals or motorcycles in the area to emergency hotline 191 or the nearest police station to expedite the apprehension and prosecution of the suspect.

Natchapol Kaemratana: Lead vocals (middle range), arrangement Phr. Jitiwat Winsuntiea: Drums Phr. Pornpipat Sukthong: Lead vocals (lower range), arrangement Phr. Thongkham Sinsasitsai: Bass

Lyrics excerpts: Once in a lifetime, like lightning written by fate A red ID card that changes one person's life Some chase dreams for those behind them Some must bear disappointment from resignation Reminding myself repeatedly, I will make it through Telling myself over and over, I will make it through

From ordinary person to naval officer So many things requiring quick understanding Cast aside procrastination, forget exhaustion Everything must be done well—there is no such word as "can't"

Steel that seems hard is no match for the human spirit Enduring hardship through torment This ship will not abandon you—we go together My friends, let's reach the shore together, it's not far now

Born only once, must fight it once more With dreams of becoming a naval officer To serve the nation as a Thai man's duty Discipline and determination without losing heart For parents and siblings, waiting for little brother first Promise to you, young lady, not long now

Thailand Turns Ocean Waste Into Patient Care Textiles

Thailand is turning ocean waste and plastic bottles into medical-grade patient turning sheets that reduce pressure ulcers and ease caregiver burden. The Upcycling for Life initiative partners government agencies with the Princess Siriwannav

9h ago Khaosod

On July 2, 2026, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchati Chomklin presided over a handover ceremony for raw materials to produce patient turning sheets under the Upcycling for Life project, partnering with the Foundation for Coral Reef and Marine Life Conservation under Princess Siriwannavaree Narissara Rajakhanya. The initiative operates under a strategic cooperation framework for marine resource and environmental management toward sustainable social development, supporting the Princess's mission to conserve coral reefs, protect endangered marine species, and restore marine resources while engaging the public in addressing ocean waste and resource efficiency.

The ceremony included Admiral Suwin Jaengyodsuuk, foundation vice chairman, and senior officials including the ministry's permanent secretary and representatives from leading institutions.

Minister Suchati stated the project exemplifies transforming "ocean waste" into "social value" through a circular economy approach. PET plastic bottles and marine waste materials are processed using knowledge, technology, and innovation into products beneficial to patients and medical personnel, aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.

The patient turning sheets, made 100 percent from upcycled materials, provide body support, reduce friction, minimize pressure ulcer risk, offer good ventilation, are durable, and ease caregiver burden when moving patients. This innovation demonstrates how environmental conservation creates tangible improvements to people's quality of life.

Minister Suchati added that raw materials come from multi-sector cooperation: waste sorting by ministry personnel following Green Office guidelines, marine debris collection from beaches and river mouths, and fishing net scraps from coastal communities. Materials are sent to a school waste bank in Tha Khwam subdistrict, Chachoengsao province, where students learn waste management and resource value before private sector partners produce the patient turning sheets for medical use.

Director General Dr. Pinsak Surasawadeekul of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources noted that plastic waste in the ocean significantly impacts ecosystems, tourism, and coastal communities. Field surveys also reveal many bedridden patients lack quality medical equipment due to high costs. The Upcycling for Life project serves as a model for creating new value from discarded resources, reducing environmental problems while improving patient and caregiver quality of life, demonstrating collaboration among government, private sector, academia, and civil society in conserving marine resources and advancing the nation's sustainable development.

Police arrested a former son-in-law on suspicion of murdering a woman, her mother, and father, whose bodies were buried in a cassava field in Nakhon Sawan province after their disappearance on June 30, 2569. A missing persons alert was posted online on that date for the three family members from Phaisali District. Police from Phaisali Station searched the cassava field and found soil with fresh digging and burial marks, concealed beneath scattered leaves. After coordinating with forensic teams from Nakhon Sawan Provincial Police Region, officers apprehended the former boyfriend—identified as the ex-son-in-law—in Chachoengsao province. He confessed to murdering his ex-girlfriend along with her parents, totaling three victims. The motive stemmed from relationship disputes and property-related conflicts.

Supachai Speaks Out On Om Patchara's Home Woes

Actress Om Patchara's home construction project has plagued her with repeated roof leaks over years of unfinished work, with Supachai offering his support and noting many contractors have since volunteered to help resolve the persistent iss

9h ago Khaosod

Supachai spoke on behalf of actress Om Patchara, acknowledging her considerable stress over the home construction project that remains unfinished after many years, plagued by repeated roof leaks occurring six to seven times without resolution.

Supachai was launching the 13th A Fair market event at CentralWorld's G floor, an event featuring dining, shopping, and performances by renowned artists running daily from July 1-15, 2026.

Regarding Om Patchara's home problems, which she posted about online after discovering persistent roof leaks, Supachai explained: "The roof leak issue is that Om really cares about building the house. She watches it constantly, oversees it constantly. But there may be accidents, mistakes that need fixing. Building a house is ongoing—there are roof leaks and other issues. Om has to keep fixing them. Since she posted about it, many contractors have reached out to me and to her, wanting to help. She's quite stressed. Stressed about the house. It's like it never gets finished."

When asked if he's spoken with Om since the problem emerged, Supachai said: "We talk about everything. I've gone to pray and asked that the house finally gets finished. I want to visit the new house. Om designed everything herself, did the design work. It's really beautiful."

On whether contractors bear direct responsibility, Supachai cautioned: "I haven't gone into the details. You'd need to ask Om herself. I can only speak to what I see, and I know the contractor too. He hasn't disappeared—he's still around. It's just that things aren't finished yet. They're working through the problems. I think the issue might be that when it rains, water leaks in. That's a problem we need to keep investigating. I'll ask Om on the 8th. I don't know how their contract is structured."

When asked if Om is stressed, Supachai replied: "Of course she's stressed. And the house—she's building it and living in it at the same time. It's not like she went somewhere else and is building a house. It's her home where she's living and working. We wake up hearing the sounds—bang, bang, bang all day. When will it ever finish? Her parents are there, her dogs are there. There's dust everywhere. I want it finished soon. She wants it finished. I can't even remember how many years it's been. But it's been a long time. A considerable stretch. It started as an extension to the original house—her property is already spacious. They're expanding it with a room for her father, a guest room, a sitting and dining area. Her father's room already existed, but ask for more details. I only know it's not done."

Supachai indicated he would seek more specific information from Om on July 8th at CentralWorld.
