Russian Man Held After Scaling Fence at Suvarnabhumi Airport
A 23-year-old Russian man was safely restrained by airport security after scaling a fence in the restricted arrivals area at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Wednesday afternoon. He had arrived in Thailand four days earlier and was awaiting a flight
At 3:50 p.m. on August 14, 2569, Suvarnabhumi Airport operations received a report of a foreign man acting agitated and standing outside a fence in the arrivals area on the second floor of the terminal. Airport security and the rapid response team were dispatched to investigate. Upon arrival, they identified a 23-year-old Russian man in a distressed state, standing in a restricted area outside the building. Officials coordinated a careful operational plan, with Colonel Wuttichai Busuwa, head of airport security, directing the response. Teams including airport psychologists, emergency medical personnel, rescue staff, and inflatable air cushions were mobilized as precautions.
After all units were prepared, teams worked to distract the man while Colonel Wuttichai Busuwa seized an opportunity to rush in, physically restrain him by the neck, and safely pull him back inside the building. The man was then taken to the airport police station for questioning and psychological support. His embassy was notified and family members were contacted to arrange his care.
Background checks revealed the Russian national had arrived in Thailand on August 10 and was scheduled to travel to Koh Samui at 8:05 p.m. that evening before the incident occurred. The exact cause of his distress remains unclear pending further questioning once he has calmed down.
