Senior Soccer Team Crash Kills Two, Injures Two
A container truck lost control on a downhill highway curve in Phrae Province, striking a vehicle carrying senior soccer players and killing two 70-year-old teammates while injuring two others.
A senior football team from northern Thailand's Phrae and Nan provinces was traveling to a match in Phitsanulok when a container truck lost control on a downhill stretch of the Denchai-Uttradit Highway in Denchai District, Phrae Province. The container broke free and crossed into the opposite lane, striking a white Honda CR-V with violent force. Four people were seriously injured; two later died: 70-year-old Police Captain Nathipat from Long District, Phrae, and 70-year-old Decha from Mueang District, Nan. Emergency responders from Samdet Phra Yuppharat Denchai Hospital and local rescue volunteers rushed to the scene. The truck driver, traveling from Nakhon Si Thammarat, reported that the vehicle lost control while navigating the downhill curve. Police took the truck driver in for questioning and further legal proceedings. Following the accident, the football team cancelled their match participation due to the deaths of team members and the emotional toll on the group.
