Soldier Found Dead in Military Camp in Nakhon Ratchasima

Military Region 2 announced on September 13 that it had found a soldier dead on the camp grounds. On September 12 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Military Region 2 received a report from the Third Frontier Guard Battalion about the discovery of Private Thitikorn (surname withheld), age 20, a conscript in the 2/69 rotation serving with the Frontier Guard company. The soldier was found deceased behind the coffee shop at Surathammaphithak Camp in Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima province, after personnel from the 23rd Artillery Battalion went to gather forest materials in the area.

Initial investigation revealed that Private Thitikorn had been granted leave from September 1–10 to return to his hometown in Na Chaluai District, Ubon Ratchathani province. When his leave expired, he did not return to the camp as scheduled. His unit contacted his family, who reported that he had left to return to base. However, he could not be reached by phone or other means before he was found deceased on the same day.

Questions of supervisors and coworkers did not reveal any signs of conflict, violence, or physical harm. The body has been sent for autopsy at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital's forensic pathology department to determine the cause of death. Investigators are still gathering evidence and have not yet reached a definitive conclusion. Military Region 2 expressed its deepest condolences to the soldier's family and confirmed full cooperation with police and relevant authorities in conducting a fair and thorough investigation. A final determination of the cause of death will await the results of the official autopsy and investigation.
