Shocking! A pickup truck lost control and slammed into a traffic police officer directing traffic in front of a school, throwing his body over the school fence and killing him. CCTV footage reveals the officer saw the vehicle coming but could not escape in time.
At 3:05 PM on November 5, 2026, the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station radio center (Na Kha substation) received a report of a vehicle striking a traffic police officer from the Na Kha substation while he was on duty. The incident occurred on Mittraphap Road outbound from Udon Thani, in front of the Udon Thani International School, Ban Dong Rai, Na Kha Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province. Officers coordinated an urgent response.
At the scene, a white pickup truck with Bangkok license plate 9 Kor Sor 2760 was found in a roadside ditch, overturned. The driver, 39-year-old Thawatchai (surname withheld), was trapped inside and injured. Rescuers used hydraulic cutters for over 30 minutes to free him.
Nearby, the injured officer was identified as Police Senior Sergeant Major Kiatisak Somthes, 54, a traffic officer with the Na Kha substation. He had been standing directing traffic in front of the school. His condition was critical; rescuers performed CPR before he later succumbed to his injuries.
CCTV footage shows that while Pol. Sgt. Maj. Kiatisak was performing his duties at the accident site, the pickup truck approached at high speed, suddenly lost control, swerved violently, and struck him with tremendous force. Although he attempted to run away, he could not avoid the impact, and his body was thrown over the school fence.
Twisak, the school's security guard, stated he was inside the guard post about 50 meters from the scene. He did not see the moment of impact but heard a loud crash and did not hear any braking sounds. Pol. Sgt. Maj. Kiatisak had been assigned to this area for a long time. They were not close personally but occasionally greeted each other and discussed school activities. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
Meanwhile, at the scene, 48-year-old Joi, Thawatchai's wife, sat grief-stricken and weeping. She briefly explained that before the accident, her husband had driven out to have a sound system installed in the vehicle but unexpectedly met with this accident.
Police are currently gathering evidence, re-interviewing the pickup driver after his medical treatment, questioning witnesses, and reviewing CCTV footage from multiple angles to determine the exact cause. Legal proceedings will follow.
It was learned that Pol. Sgt. Maj. Kiatisak had intended to donate his vital organs to help patients in need. His family is now preparing to transport his body for a royally sponsored cremation ceremony at Wat Pa Khanti Tham, Ban Don Mak Kaeo, Na Phu Subdistrict, Pen District, Udon Thani Province.
