TAT Turns Cabinet Meeting, Expo into Udon Thani Tourism Push
The Tourism Authority of Thailand leveraged the mobile cabinet meeting and World Horticultural Expo in Udon Thani from November 1-3 to promote the province as a tourist destination. TAT launched influencer campaigns, a dedicated travel route, and a "5 Must Do" showcase highlighting local food, culture, and nature attractions like the Red Lotus Sea. Officials aim to stimulate balanced, sustainable tourism growth and boost the grassroots economy in the northeastern province.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is transforming a "Mega Event" into a "Mega Opportunity" by leveraging the second mobile cabinet meeting of 2026 and the Udon Thani World Horticultural Expo to generate new travel demand and position Udon Thani as a premier destination. Deputy Government Spokesperson Phloythale Lakmichan revealed that TAT is using these platforms to build awareness, expand reach, and convert visibility into travel inspiration for Udon Thani province.
Over three days from November 1-3, 2026, TAT executed strategic marketing through influencer campaigns led by the deputy spokesperson team to drive tourism and the grassroots economy in Udon Thani. The "One Day Trip: Udon Thani: Bloom, Weave & Vibe" route showcased the province's charm and identity through Thai-Chinese cultural tourism, ancient community weaving traditions that revive the Thai silk trend, and the local economy.
On November 2, 2026, officials attended the opening ceremony of the "Udon Thani World Horticultural Expo 2026" at the Nong Da wetland in Mueang district, under the concept "Diversity of Life: Connecting People, Water, and Plants for Sustainable Living." TAT set up a tourism promotion exhibition at the entrance and ticket sales zones, presenting highlights based on the "5 Must Do in Udon Thani" concept, including a "Must Taste" experience featuring "Miang Kluay Bua" (lotus petal wraps) served at the cabinet dinner.
On November 3, 2026, TAT escorted Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthamphand to visit the "Red Lotus Sea" attraction, boosting its nature tourism potential and elevating it toward innovative tourism goals aimed at creating economic opportunities and increasing income for locals.
At the mobile cabinet meeting venue, TAT promoted tourism through the "5 Must Do in Udon Thani" concept, decorating their booth to convey the province's charm through diverse tourism activities including: Must Taste - sampling Udon's signature salted milk ice cream and red lotus tea from Ban Chiang Hwae, Kumphawapi district; Must Try - experiencing sustainable Isan lifestyle tourism; Must Buy - purchasing local wisdom handicraft souvenirs; Must Seek - capturing memories at photo spots featuring Udon attractions with mascots "Nong Suk Jai" and "Nong Rak Yim"; Must See - perspectives on traditions, lifestyles, and arts and culture. Fresh salted milk ice cream and red lotus tea from Ban Chiang Hwae were served to the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers so they could experience Udon Thani's signature flavors.
"The government is confident that the second mobile cabinet meeting of 2026 and the 'Udon Thani World Horticultural Expo 2026' will serve as a significant starting point to drive balanced and sustainable growth for the Thai tourism sector," Phloythale stated.
