Teen Student Killed After Motorcycle Slides Under Bus in Bangkok
A 16-year-old student died in Bangkok after his motorcycle slipped between a car and a bus, throwing him under the bus's rear wheels. The crash occurred on Charan Sanitwong Road when the teen attempted a risky overtaking maneuver despite warnings from friends. Police are investigating with CCTV footage and have detained both drivers for questioning.
A 16-year-old Grade 11 student riding a motorcycle died after attempting to squeeze between a private car and a public bus on Charan Sanitwong Road in Bangkok's Bang Khun Non district late Monday night.
At 11:00 p.m. on November 6, Bang Khun Non Police Station received a report of a multi-vehicle collision with one fatality near the entrance to Soi Charan Sanitwong 20. Police coordinated with Siriraj Hospital forensic doctors and Por Teck Tung Foundation volunteers to examine the scene.
The three-lane road showed a heavily damaged Honda motorcycle lying in the rightmost lane near a U-turn point. Nearby lay the body of 16-year-old Hasim (surname withheld), a Grade 11 student at a private school, in a pool of blood. An orange Route 509 bus was parked at the roadside with its driver waiting to give a statement, along with the driver of an orange private car also parked nearby. Neither driver fled.
Friends of the victim, who were riding together in a group, told police they had been returning from a market. The private car occupied the right lane while the bus was in the middle lane. The victim attempted to thread between both vehicles but apparently clipped the car, lost balance, and fell into the path of the bus's right rear wheels. Friends said they had repeatedly warned him against such dangerous riding, but he never listened.
The bus driver stated the motorcycle sideswiped the car before falling under the bus's rear wheels at such close range that braking was impossible.
The victim's father arrived at the scene and, upon seeing his son's destroyed motorcycle, collapsed to his knees weeping before slumping onto the pavement, leaving bystanders deeply shaken.
Police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to establish the exact sequence of events and have summoned both drivers to Bang Khun Non Police Station for further statements to proceed with legal action.
