TMD Issues Severe Weather Warning for 40 Provinces
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued its 12th severe weather warning for November 7-9, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain across 40 provinces in northern and southern Thailand. The alert warns of flash floods, landslides, and waves exceeding two meters in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, urging residents and boat operators to take precautions.
The Thai Meteorological Department announced Warning No. 12 (295/2026) regarding severe weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rain in the South, effective November 7-9, 2026. Upper Thailand continues to experience severe weather with thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and heavy rain in some areas. The public is urged to beware of dangers from thunderstorms and strong winds, and to avoid staying in open areas, under large trees, or near unstable billboards. From November 7-9, the South will see increased rainfall with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some areas. The public should beware of accumulated rainfall which may cause flash floods and mudslides, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying areas. This is due to a high-pressure area or another cold air mass from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing stronger easterly winds over Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves in thunderstorm areas will exceed 2 meters. Boat operators in the Gulf and Andaman should check routes and proceed with caution, avoiding thunderstorm areas. For safety, the public should plan activities and travel carefully during this period and monitor TMD announcements continuously via www.tmd.go.th, 0-2399-4012-13, and 1182 (24 hours). The next announcement will be issued November 7, 2026 at 17:00.
