Thai Cyclist Peerawap Finishes 8th in Le Tour de Langkawi
Thai cyclist Peerawap Chawa Chiang Kwang finished eighth among Asian riders in stage seven of Le Tour de Langkawi 2026 in Malaysia, helping the Thailand Continental Cycling Team earn points for the 2028 Olympics. The stage, won by Spain’s Nil Gimen o Ferrer of Equipo Kern Pharma, was marked by hot weather and steep climbs that split the peloton, with all five Thai riders finishing in the main group. The team currently ranks sixth in Asia and 18th overall, with one stage remaining to improve their Olympic qualification prospects.
Decha Hemakorn said he received a report from Coach Tum Vissut Kasiyaphat that the October 3 stage, the seventh of the race, ran from Melaka to Batu Pahat over 158.9 kilometers with 109 cyclists. The hot weather and steep climbs caused the group to break apart, and in the final stretch four riders broke away and sprinted to the line. The stage win went to Spain’s Nil Gimen o Ferrer of Equipo Kern Pharma with a time of 3:12:33. All five Thai riders finished with the main group; the top Thai performer was Peerawap Chawa Chiang Kwang, who placed eighth among Asian riders in 3:13:06. Sergeant Thanakorn Chaiyayasombat, Corporal Nopphon Klaahan and Sergeant Thanchai Yattun also finished in the main group at the same time, while Apisit Suphan came in with the third group at 3:14:54. The overall time leader is German Lennard Jash of Tudor Pro Cycling Team with 24:51:45, while the best-placed Thai overall is Apisit Suphan in 50th place, 15th in Asia at 25:19:12. In the team standings, Thailand Continental Cycling Team is 18th overall and sixth in Asia with 76:07:05, behind XDS Astana (19th, 76:08:49) and ahead of KSPO of South Korea (20th, 77:10:37). Decha Hemakorn added that the goal is for all riders to finish and collect maximum points, with one stage left—the 188.3 km Muak Lek–Putrajaya leg—to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
