Thai Meteorological Department Issues Second Alert: New Wave of Severe Thunderstorms to Batter Upper Thailand
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns of severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and strong winds hitting upper Thailand from April 29 to May 1, spreading from the north to Bangkok and central regions.
On April 28, 2025, the Thai Meteorological Department issued its second announcement regarding severe thunderstorms in upper Thailand (effective from April 29 to May 1, 2025), warning that the period will see thunderstorms characterized by heavy rainfall, strong gusty winds, hail, and potential lightning strikes in certain areas. The storms will initially affect the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions before impacting the central region, Bangkok, and surrounding provinces.
The severe weather is caused by a high-pressure system and cold air mass from China spreading across the northeastern region and the South China Sea, while upper Thailand experiences extremely hot conditions.
The public is advised to stay alert to the dangers of thunderstorms by avoiding open areas, large trees, buildings, and unstable structures. Farmers are encouraged to reinforce fruit trees and prepare protective measures for crops, livestock, and their health during these weather changes.
Residents are requested to monitor announcements from the Thai Meteorological Department via their website at http://www.tmd.go.th or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24/7.
The announcement was issued on April 28, 2025, at 5:00 AM, with the next update scheduled for 5:00 PM the same day.
