Thai Meteorological Department Issues Weather Alert for Upper Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather notice for upper Thailand, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain from October 4 to 7, 2026. Impacts will vary by day and region, affecting the North, Central, East and parts of the South, with possible flash floods and rough seas. The public is advised to take precautions and follow updates from the department.
The Thai Meteorological Department announced Notice No. 5 (239/2569) on October 3, 2026, stating that from October 4 to 7 upper Thailand will experience unsettled weather marked by thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain in some localities. The impacts will be felt as follows: on October 4 in the upper northern and eastern regions and the Northeast; from October 5‑6 in the North, Central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), the East and upper South, with rainfall decreasing in the Northeast; and on October 7 in the western parts of the North and Central region. The unsettled weather is caused by a high‑pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over the upper North and Northeast, while the southwest monsoon continues to cover the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. Authorities warn the public of dangers from thunderstorms, strong gusts, heavy and accumulated rain that could trigger flash floods and overflowing streams, particularly on slopes near watercourses and low‑lying ground, and advise staying clear of open areas, large trees and insecure billboards. Sea conditions in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will strengthen, with waves exceeding two metres in thunderstorm areas, and mariners should check routes and exercise caution, avoiding navigation in those zones. The department also notes that eastern and southern regions will continue to see rain through October 8‑12, with some heavy to very heavy falls, and urges the public to follow updates via its website http://www.tmd.go.th or the hotlines 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours a day. The next notice will be issued on October 4 at 05:00.
