Thailand Issues Severe Weather Alert for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns of heavy to very heavy rain and strong winds across the country through August 9, with monsoon conditions creating dangerous flooding risks and rough seas up to 4 meters in the Andaman Sea.
On August 7, 2025, the Thai Meteorological Department issued its seventh advisory regarding strong winds in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, along with heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand from August 7-9, 2025.
The northern, northeastern, and eastern regions are experiencing increased rainfall with heavy to very heavy precipitation in some areas. The central region, including Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, along with the southern region, are seeing heavy rainfall in some areas.
The weather is driven by a monsoon trough passing over the upper northern and northeastern regions, combined with a strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The public is advised to be cautious of hazards from heavy and accumulated rainfall, which may cause sudden flooding and flash floods, particularly in foothill and low-lying areas near waterways.
In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are 2-4 meters high, exceeding 4 meters in thunderstorm areas. In the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are 2-3 meters high, exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms.
Fishermen in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf should remain ashore from August 7-9, 2025.
The public is encouraged to plan activities and travel carefully during this period. Updates are available on the Meteorological Department's website at http://www.tmd.go.th or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours daily. The next advisory will be issued on August 7, 2025 at 5:00 PM.
