Thailand Issues 5th Weather Alert for Heavy Rain, Floods
Thailand's meteorological department issued its fifth weather alert for August 6-9, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the country with a heightened risk of flash floods in northern, northeastern, and southern regions.
On August 6, 2569, the Thai Meteorological Department issued alert number 5 (147/2569) concerning strong winds in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, and heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand from August 6-9. The northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will see increased rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls in some areas, while the central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the southern region will experience heavy rain in scattered areas. The conditions are caused by a monsoon trough moving across the upper northern and upper northeastern regions, combined with the strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is urged to remain vigilant against dangers from heavy rainfall and accumulated water, which may cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowland zones. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are expected to be 2-4 meters high, with waves exceeding 4 meters in thunderstorm areas, while the upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves of 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm zones. Fishermen in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf should remain ashore from August 6-9.
