A 21-year-old student from Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna in Lampang was riding a motorcycle across provinces with two friends returning home to Jun District, Phayao, when he collided with the rear of a trailer truck that had pulled over with a blown tire. He sustained critical injuries and died at Ngao Hospital.

On August 14, 2025, the Ngao Rescue Association in Lampang received notification from the 1669 emergency center about a motorcycle-trailer collision with an injured person in the Suan Sak area (opposite the white dirt pit) in Ban Huad subdistrict, Ngao District, Lampang Province.

Rescue workers found a motorcycle overturned at the rear of the trailer with a teenage male trapped beneath it. Emergency responders provided immediate assistance and first aid before coordinating with Ngao Hospital's rescue vehicle to transport the victim for treatment. Medical examination revealed a deformed right leg from the thigh through the hip, head trauma, and multiple broken teeth. The victim was identified as Rachantor, age 21, a student at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna in Lampang.

According to witness accounts, the trailer had suffered a blown tire and pulled to the roadside. The vehicle was beginning to move back out onto the roadway when Rachantor was riding his motorcycle with three companions heading home. The first motorcycle spotted the trailer and managed to swerve around it safely, but Rachantor's motorcycle, traveling behind, could not avoid collision and struck the rear of the trailer at high speed, causing severe injuries.

After the accident, police from Ngao Station investigated and notified relatives to come to the hospital to monitor the victim's condition. However, Rachantor was later pronounced dead at the hospital, leaving his family and fellow students in deep sorrow.

Couple Found Dead in Rowhouse; Financial Troubles Suspected

A husband and wife were found dead in their Lampang rowhouse after their son grew concerned when they stopped responding to messages. Police suspect financial difficulties from their struggling smoothie shop business led to the deaths.

Couple Found Dead in Rowhouse; Financial Troubles Suspected

Police discovered the bodies of a husband and wife in a rowhouse after their son received a farewell message and could not reach them. The son called authorities asking them to check on the house. Financial problems are suspected as the cause.

At 8:30 p.m. on August 14, 2025, Deputy Investigative Officer Buddhisit Phongphan of Muang Lampang Police Station received a report of deaths in a residential house on Srikoed Road, Huaweang Subdistrict, Muang Lampang District, near Srikoed Temple. He coordinated with rescue teams, Lampang Hospital medical staff, and forensic personnel. Officers forced open the steel door and discovered the body of a 58-year-old man hanged beneath the second-floor staircase. Searching the second floor bedroom, they found the body of a woman, approximately 55–58 years old, with a rope around her neck. Both bodies were taken for autopsy and then transferred to Lampang Hospital's forensic department.

Investigation revealed that the couple's son had called from Bangkok but received no answer, growing concerned for their safety. He alerted police to investigate. Officers found the house locked with no one answering. Using a lever, they forced the door and discovered both bodies inside.

Initial findings suggest financial hardship was the cause. The deceased couple operated a smoothie shop by renting the house. Their income did not cover expenses, and some months they fell behind on rent. The son showed police the final chat message from his parents: "Goodbye." Preliminary evidence suggests the man harmed the woman before taking his own life beneath the second-floor staircase. Authorities will conduct a detailed investigation before proceeding further.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister gave an interview at 21:15 on 14 August 2025 following his role as chairman at a Buddhist memorial service for the late Kriang Kalptinun, former Deputy Interior Minister, held in Ubon Ratchathani province. The event brought together four prime ministers: Anutin Charnvirakul, Thaksin Shinawatra, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, and Somchai Wongsawat, a former prime minister. Before Thaksin departed, video footage showed Anutin making a respectful wai to Thaksin.

Anutin explained that he was obliged to wai Thaksin out of respect, as he had served as a minister in Thaksin's cabinet since 2004 and was the last minister to receive Thaksin's patronage. When asked what he discussed with Thaksin, Anutin said they did not discuss anything of substance, only exchanged greetings and personal inquiries. He also had the chance to meet with Paetongtarn and Somchai, both longtime acquaintances.

When asked if he was pleased to meet with all four prime ministers, Anutin said that the Pheu Thai party is now a coalition partner in government, and everyone is already well acquainted. Regarding how the meeting would smooth government operations, Anutin stated that operations have been running smoothly all along. The current cabinet includes Yossanan as Deputy Prime Minister and Pheu Thai cluster head, along with Suriya Juengrungruangkit, Julpan Amorwiwattana, and Prasert Chantharangsul, all working well together.

Woman Stabbed to Death by Mentally Ill Relative in Village

A 50-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her mentally ill cousin in Amnat Charoen Province on August 14; the suspect, who has a history of violent behavior, surrendered to police after barricading himself indoors.

On August 14, 2569, Deputy Commander Noppasit Jamparat of Nam Prik Police Station received a report of a homicide in the middle of the village road in Nai M Subdistrict, Muang District, Amnat Charoen Province. He coordinated with medical staff from Amnat Charoen Hospital and Petcharoen Foundation officials to investigate.

At the scene in front of a single-story concrete house, police found the body of Kanakorn, 50, wearing an orange shirt and black long pants, lying face-up in the middle of the road. Her face bore deep lacerations from repeated cuts by a sharp object, severely disfigured. A serrated knife used in the attack was found near the body.

The attacker was identified as Somchai, 44, a cousin of the victim. After the assault, he fled to his bedroom and locked the door. Police negotiated with him to surrender, and he eventually complied. The suspect remained calm and appeared detached from the incident before being taken for questioning at Nam Prik Police Station.

A witness, Pramote, 64, revealed that the victim had been selling sausages in front of the suspect's house for three to four years. She had stopped during the rainy season for nearly a month and had just resumed selling that morning. The witness said he first noticed the victim trying to flee before she collapsed in the road, after which the suspect continued stabbing her in front of nearby residents. Nobody dared intervene out of fear, as the suspect has a history of mental health issues and has previously attacked people and bitten residents. The suspect normally stays isolated indoors and rarely speaks to anyone.

The victim's husband told reporters through tears that his wife had been selling sausages at the suspect's house for four to five years without any previous incidents or conflict. He mentioned the suspect had previously thrown bottles at neighbors' homes. The husband noted that if unsold sausages remained, he would give them to the suspect to eat. He had intended to ask his wife to help retrieve their buffalo but changed his mind and went alone, sending his wife to sell sausages instead, leading to this tragic incident.

Twelve-year-old Thai-Chinese golfer Yubo Chen, competing for the first time, fired a 5-under-par 67 to claim the solo lead in the boys' division after the opening round on Friday, 14 August 2025. Chen birdied holes 11, 16, and 18, and picked up three more birdies at holes 2, 4, and 8 while recording one bogey at hole 1. Hung Yu Liu of China and Ratchavich Ratchatchayan of Thailand both finished one shot back with matching 3-under-par 69s. Chen reflected on his round: "I played well; my putting was inconsistent, but I focused on staying in the fairway and executing solid short game shots. Next round I'll try to be patient, give myself more opportunities, and aim for a top-5 finish."

In the girls' division, 13-year-old Pimpnara Kulavanich opened with a 5-under-par 67 for the sole lead after collecting five birdies at holes 10, 11, 17, 2, and 4 from a start at hole 10. Richie Kittivatakul and Kirana Batpannatana held second place at 4-under-par 68, while Kachkorn Nimnuean of Ratchaburi posted 3-under-par 69 for fourth. Kulavanich said afterward: "I didn't hit many fairways today, but my approach shots landed close enough to give me birdie putts. For the remaining two rounds, I'll play with more focus." Nimnuean added: "The front nine went well; I made three birdies and an eagle at the par-4 14th. The back nine was tougher with strong wind, and my putting suffered, costing me two bogeys. Next round I'll focus on better tee shots to control my game better."

The tournament, held for the second year, features 120 international juniors (72 boys, 48 girls) and is supported by the Thailand Sports Authority, National Sports Development Fund, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Global Golf Management, Thailand Domestic Power, and Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai. Champions in both divisions advance to the full AJGA season, with top-5 finishers earning stars toward AJGA eligibility.

Three Fake Immigration Officers Arrested for Charity Card Scam

Three men posing as immigration officers were arrested in Rayong for forcing Chinese migrant workers to buy charity cards under threat of deportation inspections, with items stolen from victims' homes during the scams.

Three Fake Immigration Officers Arrested for Charity Card Scam
4d ago Khaosod

Three suspects posing as immigration officers have been arrested after targeting Chinese migrant workers in Ban Kaai District, Rayong. The suspects allegedly forced victims to buy charity cards, threatening to bring in real immigration staff for inspections if they refused, and items went missing from residences after the suspects left.

Rayong Provincial Police and Nong Krub Station officers tracked the suspects to a house in Bo Win Subdistrict, Si Racha District, Chonburi, where they seized a black Toyota Revo pickup truck and recovered two damaged vehicle license plates along with documents related to extortion attempts and evidence. Investigation continues to identify additional victims.

Deputy Commander of Immigration Bureau Region 3, Parinya Klin Kaet, acting as spokesman, used the case as a warning to the public and foreigners. He advised that people should ask for the officer's rank, full name, position, and agency, and request to see their police identification card. Citizens can also photograph or film the person and note details of the vehicle or other identifying information.

Klin Kaet emphasized that the immigration bureau has no policy authorizing officers to solicit donations or sell charity cards in such manner. He instructed the public not to hand over money or belongings without first verifying identification, and to contact local police stations, provincial immigration offices, or the officer's agency directly if unsure.

The public can now use the Police Care mobile application and search the "Police Officer Information" menu to verify details against official police databases. However, finding a matching name does not confirm identity, as scammers may use real officers' names and photos. People should verify the person, their agency, and their assigned duties match. Anyone encountering threats, demands for money, or attempts to be taken elsewhere should avoid confrontation and immediately call 191 or the Police Command Center hotline at 1599.

The fire at Kuan Kren peatland in the Thao Noi Wildlife Sanctuary, spanning villages 1, 6, 8, 9, and 11 in Kren subdistrict, Chao Aud district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, is now in its second day of continuous burning. Sparked by intermittent rain, strong winds, and intense heat, the blaze is spreading rapidly through dry grass and peat forest, driven by powerful winds. The fire has advanced to within 150 meters of Chao Aud Kren Thammawitthaya School, prompting officials to spray water to prevent it from reaching the buildings. Over 3,000 residents across five villages are suffering from thick smoke inundation, particularly affecting the elderly and those living downwind.

Thammanooun Kongjun, headman of Kren subdistrict administration, has declared an emergency situation and activated rescue services. The subdistrict and Kuan Ching Health Promotion Hospital are operating 24-hour hotlines for residents experiencing smoke inhalation, respiratory distress, or urgent medical needs: 087-264-6120 (subdistrict headman) and 096-314-5766 (hospital director). Authorities advise residents to avoid the fire area, wear protective masks if in heavy smoke, and recommend that vulnerable groups—the elderly, young children, bedridden patients, and those with respiratory conditions like asthma—shelter indoors or evacuate to safe areas prepared by the subdistrict.
