Thailand Braces for Heavy Rains, Flash Floods in 31 Provinces
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns of heavy to very heavy rains and flash floods across 31 provinces through August 9, with waves reaching 4 meters in the Andaman Sea forcing small boats ashore.
At 5:00 p.m. on August 5, 2569, the Meteorological Department issued weather alert no. 4 (146/2569) concerning strong winds and heavy to very heavy rains across Thailand, with impacts expected from August 6–9, 2569. The northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will see increased rainfall with heavy to very heavy conditions in some areas, while the central region, Bangkok, and the southern region will experience heavy rain in scattered locations. The conditions are driven by a monsoon trough passing over the upper northern and upper northeastern regions, combined with a strong southwest monsoon wind system covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the upper Gulf of Thailand.
The public is urged to beware of dangers from heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain that may cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are expected to be 2–4 meters high, exceeding 4 meters during thunderstorms. The upper Gulf of Thailand will see 2–3 meter waves, exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Fishermen in both areas are advised to exercise caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf should stay ashore from August 6–9, 2569.
