Thai Meteorological Dept Issues Heavy Rain Warning Oct 10-13
Thailand's Meteorological Department has issued Warning No. 7 for volatile weather from October 10 to 13, forecasting heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and possible lightning. The warning covers most of the country, with Bangkok and surrounding areas expected to see heavy rain today. Officials urge caution, especially regarding flash floods and rough seas, and advise the public to follow official updates.
The Meteorological Department issued Warning No. 7, stating that from October 10 to 13 Thailand will experience volatile weather with thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, with possible lightning. Impacts will affect the North, lower Northeast, Central (including Bangkok), East, and South on October 10; the lower North, Central (including Bangkok), East, and South on October 11; and the South on October 12 and 13. The weather pattern is caused by a high-pressure or cold air mass from China moving southward, combined with easterly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture from the South China Sea, while the southwest monsoon continues over the Andaman Sea and the monsoon trough lies across the south. The public is advised to guard against dangers from thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rain, and possible flash floods or overflow, especially on hillsides near waterways and low-lying areas; avoid open spaces, sheltering under large trees, and weak billboards. Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand may exceed two meters during thunderstorms, so sailors should navigate cautiously and avoid boating in stormy areas. People should plan activities and travel carefully, and follow updates from the Meteorological Department via its website or hotline numbers.
