Thai Opposition Leader Demands Dissolution of ISOC Over Budgetary Irregularities
Thai opposition leader demands ISOC dissolution after discovering the internal security agency hides 92.6 percent of its 5.74 billion baht budget in vague spending categories, enabling it to function as an unaccountable financial intermedia
Following calls from Prime Minister's advisor Wanmuhammadnor Mata to dissolve the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), Prachacha Party leader Pol.Col. Thavee Sodsong emphasized the agency's governance crisis on July 10, 2026. Examining ISOC's 2570 budget of 5.74 billion baht, he identified a critical problem: with only 44.34 million baht allocated for salaries, the agency employs approximately 200 permanent staff yet hides 5.31 billion baht—92.6 percent of the total budget—in miscellaneous spending categories. This structure allows ISOC to act as a financial intermediary, advancing money to hire workers from other agencies, creating redundancy alongside established authorities like the Internal Security Command and provincial governors.
Thavee noted that this convoluted structure, lacking adequate checks, became more troubling following an incident involving an ISOC vehicle and allegations that military advisor Sayyat Chuayngan was complicit in the murder of MP Kamlasak Leewamae in Narathiwat. He urged the state to redirect funds to existing responsible agencies and reform security laws to eliminate parallel state structures, restoring genuine fiscal integrity and rule of law.
