Each zodiac sign is undergoing significant changes during this period, with both positive shifts and cautious developments ahead. Astrologer Ajarn White reveals that the mid-month Jupiter and Sun conjunction on July 17, 2025, marks a rare 12-year celestial event for six zodiac signs: Gemini, Pisces, Libra, Cancer, Aries, and Virgo. This alignment is described as transforming misfortune into prosperity and marking the beginning of extraordinary success. During this powerful period, Jupiter—known as the teacher of all stars—bestows blessings and miracles upon those who align their intentions and efforts. The astrologer recommends making merit offerings at temples, maintaining positive energy, and showing determination to achieve results. Heavy fighting erupted on the Myanmar side of the border near Mae Sod district in Tak province on July 8, with Myanmar's Light Infantry Division 22 and supporting special forces units launching sustained bombardments and machine gun fire at opposition forces hiding in the villages of Minlaepan and Phaloo in Myawaddy Township, Kayin State. The battle, occurring just across from the Thai village of Huay Maha Wong in Mae Sod district, saw opposition forces employing ambush tactics in forests and drone strikes that resulted in casualties on both sides.

As the fighting intensified over several hours, multiple military rounds crossed the border and struck civilian homes in Huay Maha Wong village. The house of Sunantha Chiang Khaek, 57, was hit twice by bullets that pierced the roof and shattered windows. The homeowner described sheltering under the house with her husband as gunfire rained down, stating that though no one was injured, they were terrified and prepared to evacuate immediately if more fire crossed the border.

Colonel Chanakon Saeng Si, commander of the Rak Manoo special task force, said fighting is expected to intensify and urged residents to evacuate to prepared shelters. Thai authorities have banned civilians from approaching the border zone. The Rak Manoo unit, Rangers, Mae Sod district administration, and Border Patrol Police have deployed armed personnel carriers along the border and established checkpoints to prevent smuggling and protect Thai citizens.

SARABURI — On July 8, 2026, police in Saraburi arrested a 42-year-old man accused of attacking two officers with an iron bar following a viral social media video of the incident.

The attack occurred on the evening of July 6 outside Jikko Saraburi, a rice porridge restaurant on Phichai Road near the irrigation canal route toward Sao Hai district in Pak Phriao subdistrict, Mueang Saraburi district.

A Facebook video posted by user "Madame Mam" showed a shirtless man in shorts running across the road before confronting two patrol officers from Mueang Saraburi Police Station. The suspect allegedly struck one officer, causing him to fall, then chased and attacked another officer before fleeing into darkness.

Mueang Saraburi Police issued a public alert identifying the suspect as Mr. Bee Sae Ho, 42, described as approximately 160 centimetres tall with a medium build, often seen shirtless and wearing shorts in the municipal area. Police obtained a court warrant for his arrest.

On the evening of July 7, residents reported sightings of a man matching the description in Nong Saeng district. After reviewing CCTV footage, police tracked the suspect to a roadside pavilion and arrested him around 23:00 on July 7. During questioning, the suspect provided inconsistent answers. A urine test showed no narcotics.

The suspect faces charges of assaulting officials while performing their duties, resisting or obstructing officials by force while armed, and damaging property.

According to Pol. Col. Sakchai Kraweeradechachai, superintendent of Mueang Saraburi Police Station, two officers sustained injuries. Pol. Lt. Boonchaliao suffered a split lip requiring five stitches after being hit with the iron bar, while Pol. Sgt. Major Poramet suffered facial injuries. Both officers received medical treatment and recovered at home.

Sakchai noted the suspect had been detained multiple times for causing disturbances in Mueang Saraburi but had never previously displayed such aggression toward officers or the public. Police said it remains unclear whether the suspect has a mental health condition and indicated specialists would conduct further evaluation.

Thailand's GDP Growth Upgraded To 2.3% On AI, Exports, State Measures

Thailand's central bank raised its 2025 economic growth forecast to 2.3%, citing strong AI-driven global demand and exports, though small businesses and agriculture remain under pressure from weak incomes and liquidity constraints.

Thailand's GDP Growth Upgraded To 2.3% On AI, Exports, State Measures
1d ago Khaosod

The Bank of Thailand's Monetary Policy Committee has upgraded its 2025 economic growth forecast to 2.3% from 1.5%, with expectations of 1.8% growth in 2026, supported by exports, private investment, and government measures including energy relief and spending stimulus programs. Don Nakorntharp, the bank's assistant governor for monetary policy, cited lighter-than-expected impacts from Middle East conflicts and strong global growth driven by AI technology investments and energy transition initiatives as reasons for the improved outlook.

Despite the overall improvement, economic recovery remains uneven, with large businesses adapting well while small and medium enterprises struggle with liquidity constraints and weak purchasing power due to slow income growth, particularly in agriculture. High-growth sectors are limited to electronics, AI-related businesses, and industries directly benefiting from government measures.

Exports are forecast to grow 14% in 2025 before slowing to 4.6% in 2026, driven by global demand for technology products linked to AI and data center investments. However, about 85% of technology export value is concentrated among just 1% of exporters, and production relies heavily on imported components, limiting broader economic benefits.

Private consumption faces headwinds despite government stimulus, with household real income expected to contract 1.7% this year due to slow wage growth and agricultural challenges. Inflation is forecast at 2.8% for 2025, mainly from energy prices, before declining to 1.4% in 2026, with the central bank noting this cost-driven inflation differs from demand-driven pressures.

Nong Khao Residents Rally Against Chinese Mineral Plant
1d ago Khaosod

On July 8, 2025, thousands of residents from Nong Khao subdistrict in Tha Muang district, Kanchanaburi, gathered at Intharanarm temple to sign a petition opposing the mineral processing plant planned for Village 7 of the subdistrict. Former MP Chatraphan Detchkitsoonthorn, leading the opposition, took journalists to inspect the construction site and pointed out its dangerous proximity to an irrigation canal fed by the Mae Kllong Dam—a critical water source for municipal water supplies in Nong Khao and Phanom Thuan districts, as well as for rice farming across tens of thousands of acres that extend into Suphan Buri province.

Residents fear that wastewater leaks from mineral processing could contaminate the irrigation canal and harm hundreds of thousands of people. They also worry about air pollution from dust and the facility's impact on Nong Khao, designated as a cultural and green village known for its natural beauty and artistic heritage. Community leaders expressed skepticism about the factory's wastewater treatment systems, citing the unresolved Klity mining case, which involved a 20-year legal battle but ultimately failed to adequately compensate affected residents or restore damaged natural resources. Residents are calling for the project to be abandoned entirely.

Village headman Thanapol Thieng-trong of Nong Khao noted that while the factory claimed to have conducted a community consultation that concluded on July 3, the announcement came as a surprise to residents in surrounding areas. Construction has already advanced significantly in just days, suggesting preparations were made well before the consultation process began.

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak presided over the first national committee meeting on world heritage convention protection in 2569 on July 8 at Government House. Culture Minister Sabida Thaisarot, Foreign Ministry Deputy Prasert Sirinnaparp, and Natural Resources and Environment Ministry Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Raviwann Phuridet served as deputy chairs, with officials from related agencies attending.

The committee approved Thailand's position and delegation composition for the 48th World Heritage Committee meeting in Busan, South Korea (July 19-29, 2569). Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin will lead the Thai delegation, with Thailand's Ambassador to France as deputy head.

A major agenda item is registering Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahaviharn in Nakhon Si Thammarat as a cultural world heritage site under criteria 2 and 6, recognizing its significance as an expression of religious diversity and spiritual beliefs with religious artistic influences spanning over 1,500 years across South and Southeast Asia. If approved, it would become Thailand's sixth cultural heritage site and ninth world heritage site overall.

The committee also approved submitting a preliminary assessment document for Prang Wat Arun in Bangkok as a cultural heritage candidate to the World Heritage Centre. Additionally, the meeting acknowledged progress on three other potential cultural heritage nominations: Chiang Mai monuments and landscapes, and Phra That Phanom in Nakhon Phanom province.

Military Chief Defends Security Agency's Role

Thailand's Army Chief defended the Internal Security Command's nationwide security role, saying it coordinates multiple agencies to address challenges beyond southern border provinces including drug trafficking and violent incidents.

Military Chief Defends Security Agency's Role
1d ago Khaosod

On July 8, 2025, at Army headquarters, General Chaiyapruks Duangpratham, the Army Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Internal Security Command (ISOC), explained the agency's scope following remarks by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Duangpratham clarified that ISOC is not limited to solving problems in southern border provinces but addresses security challenges nationwide by coordinating various specialized agencies and experts. The ISOC serves as a central hub integrating government units working together on security matters and assisting citizens affected by national security threats, including drug trafficking.

Duangpratham acknowledged that PM advisor Wan Muhammadnor Matha has the right to question and suggest improvements during parliamentary budget deliberations, which is the proper role of government oversight. He explained that ISOC employs approximately 1,000 personnel at its central office, with 170 permanent civil servants and others temporarily assigned from agencies like the Border Patrol Police and Ministry of Education.

The general noted that while ISOC may not be essential, someone must coordinate these security functions. He acknowledged government criticism about recent violent incidents—mothers and children killed, soldiers shot, police murdered, schoolchildren killed—and emphasized these are the real concerns requiring public cooperation. He stated that over 22 years, the security situation has cost many lives, and he remains committed to resolving these problems.
