BANGKOK — 13 October 2026, The Royal Thai Police are coordinating with Hong Kong authorities to investigate a suspected cross-border sex trafficking network following the arrest of 16 people, including nine Thai women, in Hong Kong. Pol. Col. Song-ek Patcharawit, deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, said on 13 October that Hong Kong Police Force had confirmed details of the alleged operation, arrests and evidence seized during the investigation. According to Hong Kong police, the network allegedly divided responsibilities among members, including recruiting Thai women to travel to Hong Kong, arranging appointments with clients and collecting proceeds from prostitution. The group allegedly used Telegram to communicate with clients and arranged for Thai women to provide sexual services at hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui. A location in Tuen Mun was reportedly used to manage and direct the operation. Hong Kong police searched the suspected command location, residences linked to network members and other related sites. On 10 October, authorities announced that 16 people had been arrested. Investigators seized approximately HK$13 million in cash, two cars and froze about HK$5.17 million in related bank accounts. They also found electronic communications and financial transaction records believed to be connected to the case. Pol. Col. Song-ek said Thai police would continue sharing information with Hong Kong authorities, focusing on the roles of individuals involved and financial flows linked to Thailand. The investigation aims to identify and take legal action against suspected accomplices operating in Thailand. He also urged Thai nationals seeking overseas employment to carefully verify job offers, employers and recruitment agencies, as well as job descriptions, wages and contract terms. Applicants should ensure their visas and work permits comply with the laws of their destination. People were warned against unverified social media offers promising high salaries and claims that they could enter a country as tourists and immediately begin working. Anyone who suspects they have been deceived, had their passport confiscated, been deprived of their freedom, forced to work or exploited should contact local authorities or the responsible Thai embassy or consulate for assistance.
