Thai Sprinter Biu Eyes Asian Games Medal With Sub-10 100m Run
Thai sprinter Biu Phuriphol Boonsorn has clocked 9.99 seconds in the 100 metres and is now targeting a medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
Sprinter Biu Phuriphol Boonsorn, Thailand's rising track-and-field talent, continues to impress after training and competing in the Czech Republic, where he clocked a 100-metre time of 9.99 seconds—breaking the 10-second barrier once again. Thailand's sports authority (TAT) is confident he can win a medal at the 20th Asian Games scheduled for 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, TAT director-general, confirmed that Thai sports fans will have free access to all popular events, particularly men's football and women's volleyball, broadcast via T SPORTS 7 and partner digital channels. "Popular sports like men's football and women's volleyball will be broadcast live so fans can follow and cheer our team, and we will show as much coverage as possible of all other Thai athletes," Yodmani said. He noted that athletics is a flagship sport and major highlight of the Asian Games, especially with Biu's exceptional recent performances. Biu made history at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games hosted by Thailand in late 2024 by winning the men's 100-metre gold medal, setting a semi-final record of 9.94 seconds. At the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in 2023, he claimed silver in the 100 metres with a time of 10.02 seconds.
