Thai Sprinter Bunsoan Wins Asian Games 100m Gold in 9.90 Seconds
Thai sprinter Bunsoan, 20, claimed gold in the 100m at the Asian Games with a winning time of 9.90 seconds, setting a new Games record despite a slow start.
Bunsoan Bunsoan, a 20-year-old sprinter for Thailand's national team, won the gold medal in the men's 100 metres at the 20th Asian Games despite a nervy start. Although his initial acceleration was not clean, he sprinted to the finish line first and shattered his own record with a time of 9.90 seconds, breaking the Asian Games record once again after setting 9.91 seconds in the semifinal.
After the race, Bunsoan acknowledged feeling nervous, which affected his starting performance, but expressed relief at ultimately succeeding and claiming the Asian Games gold medal.
"I'm very happy to reach this point. It's a shame my start was a bit nervous and slower than expected, but this feels like stepping up to another level. I was determined to win gold at this meet and trained very hard since the Southeast Asian Games," he said.
"I dedicate this medal to my mother and family, the Athletics Association, and Samitivej Hospital for caring for my body all along. Thank you to Thai sports fans for your support. There's still the 200 metres ahead, so I hope for your continued encouragement," he added.
