Thai Sprinter Phuripl Says He Can Beat 9.9 Seconds
Thai sprinter Phuripl Bunsong says he believes he can run faster than his Asian Games record of 9.90 seconds in the 100m, citing training runs of 9.7 seconds. He won two golds and a silver at the 20th Asian Games, crediting his American coach’s focus on technique and a low‑drive start. Phuripl admits the practice times were measured with a handheld stopwatch and may not be official.
Bu" Phuripl Bunsong, Thailand’s young male sprinter, said he is confident he can run faster than his previous best, noting he has already done so in training.
The 20‑year‑old athlete delivered an outstanding performance at the recent 20th Asian Games, winning two gold medals – in the 100 m with a time of 9.90 seconds and in the 200 m with 19.88 seconds – plus a silver in the mixed 4×100 m relay.
When asked about the training plan of his American coach, G. Jentley Bradley, Phuripl explained that the coach tells him to run slowly at first to master proper technique, emphasizing a slow‑to‑fast start, a low head position, and a deep drive out of the blocks to gain longer strides.
Regarding his record, the 20‑year‑old is confident he can run faster than his Asian Games times, saying he has clocked 9.7 seconds in practice, although he added that those timings were done with a handheld stopwatch and may not be officially certified.
