Thai sprinter Puripol Boonson equaled the Asian 200m record of 19.88 seconds set by China's Xia Xin Ye, with his winning time at the 2026 Asian Games confirmed by World Athletics.
World Athletics has confirmed that Puripol Boonson of Thailand's time of 19.88 seconds in the 200m gold medal race at the 2026 Asian Games is jointly held as the Asian record with China's Xia Xin Ye. Puripol's record was logged with a wind assist of -3 meters per second, equaling Xia Xin Ye's record set at a London competition on July 21, 2019, with a wind assist of +0.9 meters per second, both within the allowable limit of no more than +2.0 meters per second. However, Puripol now holds two Asian Games records: the 100 meters at 9.90 seconds and the 200 meters at 19.80 seconds.
