Man Jailed 15 Days for Jet Ski Stunt in Bangkok Flood

A Bangkok court has sentenced a man to 15 days in jail for riding a jet ski in flooded streets during heavy rains in the Phetchburi area, with a one-year suspended sentence, one year probation, and forfeiture of the jet ski.

Images and video posted on social media showed a man operating a jet ski in flooded waters near Phetchburi Road, before the Ekamai North intersection, in the Huai Khwang district of Bangkok during heavy rainfall and widespread flooding. The footage sparked criticism from numerous Facebook users who questioned the appropriateness of using a jet ski in a flood-affected area.

Following an investigation using closed-circuit camera footage, police identified and arrested the operator, identified as Sorn, 28, along with the jet ski, and Praow, who filmed the content. Both suspects initially claimed ignorance, stating they only wanted to create a smile for flood victims. According to police, both were university students unfamiliar with Thai culture.

Officers initially charged both with causing harassment or disturbance to others and obstructing traffic without authorization from traffic officials. On September 28, 2026, the Northern Bangkok District Court found the defendant guilty under Section 397, Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code combined with Section 83, sentencing him to one month imprisonment and a 10,000-baht fine. Due to his confession and mitigating circumstances, the court reduced the sentence by half under Section 78, resulting in 15 days imprisonment and a 5,000-baht fine.

The court suspended the jail sentence for one year and placed the defendant on one-year probation, requiring him to report to a probation officer three times during the probation period and complete 12 hours of community service. Failure to pay the fine will result in enforcement under Sections 29 and 30 of the Criminal Code. The jet ski, used in committing the offense, has been forfeited to the state.
