Lalana Tharawut, a young Thai tennis player, has climbed to world ranking No. 61 this week, becoming the second-highest ranked Thai female tennis player ever and achieving her career-best ranking. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has released its latest world rankings. This week, two Thai tennis players—Lalana Tharawut and Mananchaiya Sawangkaew—both improved their world rankings to career highs after advancing to the second round of the US Open, the final Grand Slam tournament of the year. The 22-year-old Lalana jumped up 15 places from No. 76 to No. 61 in the world rankings. This achievement makes Lalana the second-highest ranked Thai female tennis player ever, behind former world No. 19 Tamarine Tanasugarn and surpassing Luksika Kumkhum, who previously reached a career-high of No. 66 in November 2018. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Mananchaiya climbed 6 places from No. 95 to reach No. 88 in the world rankings.
