Thailand Braces for Heavy Rainfall Wave from Sept 23-27
Thailand's meteorological department warns of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the nation from September 23–27, with the most intense storms expected first in the lower northeast and east before spreading nationwide.
On September 22, 2025, the Thai Meteorological Department issued its second warning (number 218/2569) concerning heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand from September 23–27, 2025. Heavy rain is expected in the northern, lower northeastern, central, Bangkok and surrounding areas, eastern, and southern regions, with the most intense rainfall beginning first in the lower northeastern and eastern regions before spreading to other areas.
The heavy rainfall is caused by a strong low-pressure cell moving from central Vietnam's coast across the lower northeastern, eastern, and central regions and Bangkok metropolitan area, following a monsoon trough across northern Thailand. The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will also intensify. The department has named 33 provinces currently experiencing heavy rain.
The public is urged to be vigilant against sudden flash floods and flash flood flows, especially in sloping terrain near waterways and low-lying areas. Residents should avoid roads prone to flooding, particularly areas where water may pool rapidly. Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are expected to strengthen, with the upper gulf reaching 2–3 meters and the lower gulf and upper Andaman around 2 meters, with higher waves during thunderstorms.
Fishermen should navigate cautiously and avoid thunderstorm areas. Small vessels in the upper Gulf of Thailand should remain ashore from September 23–27. The public is advised to plan activities and travel carefully during this period.
