House Fire Kills Five Dogs, Destroys Cash and Belongings
A house fire in Samut Prakan destroyed a corrugated metal structure and killed five Chihuahua puppies on September 21, leaving the owner with about 10,000 baht in losses after an suspected electrical short circuit.
On September 21, Samut Prakan police responded to a house fire in an alley off Thian Chai Road opposite Lad Wai Mosque in Samut Prakan province. The single-story corrugated metal structure contained three connected rooms, with the fire believed to have started in the first room before spreading to the second, destroying two rooms entirely. Five Chihuahua puppies kept for sale perished in the flames, though two others escaped. Fortunately, no one was inside at the time of the fire. The owner, Saenguthay, 37, was selling drinks at a nearby shop when he learned of the blaze. He lost approximately 10,000 baht in cash and all his belongings, with only scattered ash remaining from a single banknote. His elderly mother-in-law recalled being out selling goods with a nine-year-old grandson when neighbours alerted them; they returned to find the house engulfed and could hear the puppies crying inside but were unable to reach them. The puppies, worth 1,500 to 2,500 baht each, were trapped in a clothes cabinet. Investigators suspect an electrical short circuit ignited the wardrobe, with a previous incident of similar electrical fire occurring at the same location. Authorities have collected evidence and taken witness statements as they continue to determine the exact cause.
