Fire Destroys Carport and Dog Enclosure Behind Home
A carport and dog pen behind a house in Samut Prakan caught fire on September 16, destroying the structures, a motorcycle, and a pet dog; authorities suspect an electrical short circuit.
At 5:40 p.m. on September 16, 2025, Sergeant Major Prakaj Boonthong of Phra Samut Chedi Police received a report of a house fire in the Suk Prakarn soi area of Bang Pla Kod subdistrit, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province. Six fire trucks from Phra Samut Chedi Municipal Authority, Bang Pla Kod subdistrict, Laem Fa Pha Municipal Authority, and Bangkok emergency volunteers were dispatched to assist.
The two-story house sat on nearly one rai of land, with a general store at the front and a rear extension serving as a carport and dog pen. Flames erupted violently in the back section. Neighbors helped fill water tanks and operate hoses to prevent the fire from spreading before breaking down the back door to allow firefighters access. It took 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, but the structure was completely destroyed, along with one motorcycle and a seven-year-old male Thai dog named Um.
The owner's daughter recounted in shock that the house operated as a grocery shop in front, with the rear extension used for parking, keeping dogs, and storage. She and her mother were selling goods out front with neighbors visiting when a neighbor spotted heavy smoke billowing from the back and yelled a warning. Neighbors helped extinguish the initial flames and called firefighters. The back area contained only a light bulb and an electrical outlet for a cooling fan for the dog; the family is uncertain whether the fan was plugged in that day.
Officers initially suspect an electrical short circuit caused the fire and will coordinate with police investigators to determine the exact cause.
