Thailand's Office of the Education Council launched the Thai Education Research Association (THERA) on August 7 at the Aswin Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok, unveiling a platform to connect global education research networks and drive education policy reform. Deputy Prime Minister Yosachon Wongswasdi outlined key priorities including building a stronger science and technology workforce aligned with industry needs, addressing the uneven distribution of graduates across sectors, and cultivating a global mindset among students so they are prepared to compete and work internationally. He emphasized that digital skills and language proficiency are essential for students to engage in borderless collaborative learning and contribute to the global economy.
The minister also highlighted the need to reduce educational inequality by ensuring disadvantaged children have equal access to technology and learning opportunities, while teachers and schools receive adequate funding support. The government aims to develop Thailand's education system as a model that other countries can study and adapt, linking education with research, innovation, and economic development to address inequality and build long-term sustainability. Since Thailand has significant geographic and demographic diversity, a one-size-fits-all approach to learning will not work; THERA was established to draw on successful frameworks and case studies from other countries and tailor them to local contexts.
