The romantic drama series "Rak (To Love and Cherish)" has premiered, produced by Chu Chudapa Janthakhet and Gong Piya Sevatpikul from Screenshot. The series marks the first on-screen pairing of lead actor Film Thanaphath Gavilai and actress Bua Nalinthip Skulamphaimp. Film plays Rangsiman, a young television station owner and Daran's first love, while Bua portrays Daran, a strong-willed woman who sacrifices her dreams to support her family and works as a guard at Rangsiman's station.

The cast also includes rising stars Aston Ratipath Luengwarnpan as teenage Rangsiman and Niya Makela as teenage Daran, along with supporting actors including Boss Chayakamol (Sam Ranapon), Pond Polwich (Rangsrit), Karissa Springett (Natasha), Candy Supappassorn (teenage Natasha), Koi Tarika (Nantip), Pim Pimpanpun (Angkana), Koi Narumol (Chanthana), Focus Wachirawit (Danai), and Fern Panisara (Dao).

"Rak (To Love and Cherish)" is written by Ratree Athisathan and Prema Naphatthaburnin, directed by Chudapa Janthakhet. The story follows Daran (Bua), a young woman who abandoned her dreams to care for her family, until fate reunites her with Rangsiman (Film), her first love. However, their reunion is fraught with misunderstandings, pain, and hidden secrets waiting to be revealed.

Film shared insights into playing Rangsiman, explaining that the character differs dramatically between his teenage and working-adult years. "He appears heartless and workaholic, but there's been a transformation from childhood conflicts with Daran that shaped his adult character. What I love most is that Rangsiman isn't a one-dimensional character—he's wounded and has reasons for every decision, with emotions hidden in his gaze and silence, which is a real acting challenge."

Bua discussed her character Daran, saying "Daran is strong and will do anything to care for her family. She prioritizes others' feelings over her own and sacrifices everything for those she loves. She often keeps her emotions hidden because family comes first. She went from a promising student to ending up here, and there's a reason for it. I want viewers to not judge the character from what they see alone, because there's much more they don't know yet."

Aston, playing teenage Rangsiman, noted "Teenage Rangsiman is popular, smart, and a natural leader with determination. I had to do extensive research because his character has underlying issues and encounters something very dark. The challenge is showing his bright, charming side while gradually transitioning to becoming bitter and dark, and finding the right way to reach that point."

Niya, portraying teenage Daran, revealed "Teenage Daran is very bright, excels academically and in sports, with clear dreams and goals. She deeply loves her family. I did extensive research to understand what Daran was thinking at that time, which was genuinely difficult."

Thailand Launches Literacy Program for Ethnic Minority Children

Thailand's education agency is launching a community-based literacy program targeting ethnic minority and remote-area children, using localized learning materials developed by universities to address dropout rates and educational inequality

Thailand Launches Literacy Program for Ethnic Minority Children
9 Aug Khaosod

The Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA) is advancing efforts to reduce educational inequality and address the crisis of children dropping out of school by shifting from traditional assessment toward "assessment for development" and piloting the Smart Local Literacy (SLC) model, which brings community-based learning innovations to promote literacy among ethnic minority children and those in remote areas.

ONESQA Director Prof. Dr. Ongard Naipadbhan stated that raising education quality and standards across all dimensions requires narrowing educational gaps, particularly addressing illiteracy, which serves as a fundamental foundation for continued learning. Illiteracy is also a significant factor that discourages children from continuing school and drives them out of the education system.

ONESQA is accelerating implementation of participation strategies and collaborative networks to build "intellectual capital" systematically by partnering with domestic and international networks, working directly with local communities, and using external assessment results to organize concrete educational promotion activities. The agency plans to apply policy recommendations to improve education quality nationwide.

Prof. Dr. Ongard noted that ONESQA's quality assessments have found that small schools in remote areas, particularly those serving ethnic minority children, face significant literacy challenges. ONESQA has therefore developed partnerships with higher education institutions possessing unique strengths, such as Rajabhat Universities distributed nationwide, which have deep understanding of local contexts and social geography.

"ONESQA is leveraging universities' potential through the Smart Local Literacy (SLC) model, or community-rooted learning, by transforming university knowledge into learning innovations suited to local contexts," Prof. Dr. Ongard explained. "This allows students in remote areas to learn reading and writing through teaching materials connected to local lifestyles and identities, making learning easier to understand, faster to absorb, and more enjoyable."

The Smart Local Literacy model emerged from ONESQA's shift from evaluative assessment to assessment for development, drawing lessons from a network of 13 schools under the Thaesao–Wangkrajeae Educational Network in Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Area 3. The innovation was developed to support Thai language learning for grades 1–6 at Buddhavimutti School in Thai Mueang District, serving as a prototype for network schools to build upon, with guidance from Kanchanaburi Rajabhat University.

"ONESQA plans to compile and summarize results to propose policy recommendations to the Ministry of Education for expanding local media innovations in partnership with educational networks nationwide," Prof. Dr. Ongard concluded. "This will ensure literacy and reading become key drivers for education development, reduce the number of children and youth outside the education system, and build sustainable human capital."

On August 9, 2024, Highway Police Region 4, Group 6 jointly with the Ubon Ratchathani Department of Highways arrested Somsak (surname withheld), age 40, on charges of theft of public property used for lighting along highways, nighttime offenses involving a vehicle, and possession of methamphetamine. The suspect was caught at kilometer 401 on Highway 24 in Warinchamrab district at approximately 12:30 a.m. on August 4 after a 55-day stakeout operation.

Since May 2024, criminals had been systematically cutting streetlights along highways in Decho Udom, Nayia, and Buntharik districts, causing widespread blackouts spanning tens of kilometers. These incidents resulted in traffic accidents, injuries, deaths, and significant damage to government infrastructure, with over 36 cases filed across multiple areas. Police and highway officials launched a coordinated task force using heat-map analysis to identify patterns and establish surveillance at high-risk locations.

The suspect operated alone, carefully avoiding security cameras and hiding his motorcycle in dense vegetation before cutting cables in just 5–10 minutes. Officers apprehended him as he attempted to cut power lines, discovering wire cutters, climbing equipment, and stolen copper wire at the scene. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered modified tools, large quantities of stripped copper wire, drug paraphernalia, and evidence confirming a pattern of repeated criminal activity.

Lawmaker Alleges Vote Rigging Patterns in Senate Election
9 Aug Khaosod

At 9:00 AM on August 9, 2026, at parliament, the opposition parties' coordination committee led by Prixt Wachrasindhu held the fourth session to examine evidence in the senate election case. Panida Mongkolswasdi, Yingchip Atchananont, director of the Internet for Law People project, and Bunyanuch Matthujakr discussed their findings. Panida revealed that in the morning national senate ballot round, a series of numbers appeared in identical sequence: 84, 111, 95, 7, 126, 49, 148, 107, 137, 14. While one or two matching ballots could be coincidence, these exact sequences appeared on 18 ballots. The public administration and security group showed this pattern, with Senate President Mongkol Surasatchya receiving 34 morning votes and 67 afternoon votes, and Deputy President Kriengsak Srirak receiving 40 morning votes and 74 afternoon votes. Notably, candidates who scored high in the morning saw dramatic drops in the afternoon. Similar patterns were found across multiple other groups, including agriculture and fisheries, with sequences like 79, 77, 46, 33, 16, 93, 152, 26, 60, 74 appearing 16 times. Several candidates from small provinces showed the same pattern of high morning scores followed by afternoon collapses. Panida concluded that across all 20 groups in the afternoon round, the top 10 senate winners included six people consistently, suggesting predetermined selections of 6-7 senators per group. She noted that to achieve this result, one would need to win the afternoon crossover voting where ballots are drawn into five lines of five groups each, with four lines advancing 40 people per group. The rules allow voters to give 5 points to other groups but not their own, with each line containing five groups of 40 candidates each.

On August 9, 2025, Deputy Commander of Region 1 Police Arthapol Anusit, along with Nonthaburi Provincial Police Commander Detchrapee Kongdee and investigation teams, held a meeting to review progress in the case following interviews with nearly 20 witnesses—including 6-7 student friends and classmates, with the remainder being teachers. The meeting outlined a four-phase timeline of events.

Phase 1 began when the shooter arrived at school, participated in the national flag ceremony, and fired at the first teacher, killing them in room 3/8 on the sixth floor at 9:53 a.m.

Phase 2 involved gunfire in Building 5 on floors 6 and 5. After shooting the first teacher, the shooter moved to room 565 and killed two more teachers and wounded one student. At 9:54 a.m., he moved to floor 5, changed magazines, and attempted to fire but the weapon malfunctioned. He then descended to floor 4 and shot the assistant director and secretary. Police from Prai Bang Station arrived at 10:02 a.m.

Phase 3 saw continued shooting on floors 3, 2, and 1, with attempted attacks on groups of teachers and students. He encountered a janitor but did not harm them, as they were not school staff. He then moved to Building 4 while reloading.

Phase 4 involved a confrontation with police after they arrived at 10:02 a.m. and requested backup at 10:03 a.m. Officers attempted negotiations and ordered the shooter to stop firing. At 10:10 a.m., the shooter took his own life. Investigators then executed a tactical clearance of Building 4.

Following the meeting with all relevant agencies, evidence and the shooter's mobile phone records are being examined to gather evidence and determine motive. Another press briefing will be held.

Woman's Acne Scratch Becomes Viral Wart in Six Months

Woman's Acne Scratch Becomes Viral Wart in Six Months
9 Aug Khaosod

A 40-year-old woman who scratched acne on her forehead six months ago inadvertently created an entry point for viral infection, which eventually developed into a viral wart caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Dermatologist Dr. Wu Jen-chin, sharing the case on Facebook, explains that HPV-caused warts are not limited to genital areas—they can appear on the face, hands, and feet, and such warts have no connection to inappropriate sexual behavior. When the patient picked at her forehead acne, the resulting small wound allowed the virus to penetrate the dermis, where it gradually multiplied and developed into the characteristic bumpy, cauliflower-like growth.

Dr. Wu summarizes the mechanism as "wound plus virus equals wart," emphasizing that even tiny breaks in the skin can become a gateway for infection. Treatment options depend on the wart's size and location, ranging from cryotherapy and electrosurgery to topical medications. Early intervention typically results in smaller lesions and simpler treatment. The doctor concludes by stressing that the skin reflects what we do to it, and resisting the urge to scratch, pick, or further damage acne and skin lesions can prevent downstream complications.

Woman Arrested Transporting Ice in Luxury Mercedes

A 29-year-old woman was arrested in Samut Songkhram with 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine and an illegal loaded pistol hidden in her luxury Mercedes after police received an informant tip about a drug delivery.

Woman Arrested Transporting Ice in Luxury Mercedes
9 Aug Khaosod

On August 9, 2025, police officers from Samut Songkhram's Muang district station, led by Major Somchai Korkha and assisted by several other officers, planned and executed the arrest of 29-year-old Ms. Chanistha (surname withheld) along Chaiyaprom Road in Mae Klong subdistrict, Muang district, Samut Songkhram, around 12:30 a.m. Officers received an informant tip about a planned drug delivery at that location and set up surveillance. When a Mercedes-Benz E200 registered in Chanthaburi arrived as reported, officers revealed themselves and conducted a search with the suspect as the sole driver.

During the search, police discovered 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine hidden in the engine compartment on the driver's side. In the back seat, they found an unregistered 11mm semi-automatic pistol (Colt 1911) loaded with 7 rounds in a black cloth holster. Officers seized the drugs and weapons, along with the luxury car and three iPhones, under anti-drug laws. Examination of the suspect's phone revealed clear evidence of drug transactions, photos, money transfer receipts, and location-sharing to evade police checkpoints.

During interrogation, Ms. Chanistha confessed to all charges, claiming she had no other employment besides courier work. She stated she had previously received methamphetamine and ice from Bueng Kan province—5 bags of methamphetamine and 4 kilograms of ice. She had delivered all the methamphetamine and 3 kilograms of ice to customers in Suphan Buri. The 1 kilogram of ice seized was her commission for the job. A customer named "Ert" had contacted her to buy the ice for 100,000 baht, so she was transporting it when arrested. Her urine test came back negative for drugs.

Police charged her with drug trafficking of a Type 1 narcotic (ice) with intent to sell for profit, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and carrying a firearm in an urban area without authorization. She has been handed to Samut Songkhram's Muang district investigative officers for legal proceedings, with police continuing to pursue related network members.
